Nuture Right 360- Shoe String Method

Consider a different type of string. Natural works better. Just like a lamp wick, some types will suck up the water more easily. If your "wick" is dry, it's not drawing well enough. Also, wet down your shoestring well before you start the process or it may not have enough power to get the water over the hump. The "climb" is the hard part. Once it starts sliding downhill you should be fine.
This really helps I will try this next time. What would you suggest for a more natural shoe string? And how do I keep the humidity down?

Any kind of string can work. Put 4 or 5 strings of the right thickness but different materials in a glass of water. Whatever you have. Wet them lightly and see how long it takes for the water to drip into a dish under the other end of the string. For some it can take hours, for others only minutes.

Lamp wick or candle wick is made for this, but I've used yarn, twine, pieces of cloth, etc. Artificial fibers tend to repel water rather than wick it.

This is the same idea as a siphon, but the water climbs up between the fibers.

So far today 11/16 have hatched and they are still hatching.

UPDATE: On the shoe string method. I have hatched several batches with this successfully. This next Easter hatch (my first hatch of the year) I will be using a cotton shoestring instead of a polyester one to see if it wicks the water better.
I will be running two incubators so 1 can have the cotton and 1 can have the polyester. I will be hatching Celadon quail in one and Lavender Ameracaunas in the other.

I started using this method in the fall last year and it worked really well. Previously I had a couple of times where the resivoir when dry overnight, which resulted in big drops in humidity.

Thank you for the update!

I will be interested to see the results of cotton vs. polyester.

I agree with you. I had to check the water levels 2x a day to see if the humidity had dropped. Having a Govee hygrometer really helps though for tracking tempature and humidity levels.

I set another batch of 21 eggs today. I chose the most blue eggs that I had that were the best quality. I wanted to only set blue eggs but I only have 15 good ones. So there are a few green eggs in there. Hopefully this hatch will go well.

I am using a cotton shoes string this time. And I will see if the humidity is better this time.
