Oh true story!

Yikes! Im thinking maybe lots of blankets and "Hot Hands" for temporary heat if absolutely neccessary? Also, hot water filled soda bottles work wonders!

I have the hand warmers from my husbands deer hunting would that work in the Lock Down box with quilts around them? They get HOT so would you take the hatched chicks out and put them in the brooder with the other "warm" bodies and wrap them also? This is more work than thinking about how to prepare for enemy invasion....

yes, heavy duty its right
Time to run for the heavy duty repair material and the handy mans secret weapon... Duct Tape! Sorry about your coop tho, I feel your pain. I was afraid I would loose 2 of my baby's myself earlier. I am thinking of going and getting some old barn lumber to repair mine, it was also a plywood job and the wind decided it needed a new bigger door. Yarg.

Isn't hatching stressful? That's why I didn't do the NYD hatch. I just hatched out Seramas 3 weeks ago, and I needed an in between break. But... I really am wanting Frizzles, so I'm sure it won't be long....

Hatching is addicting, this is my 3rd month in a row, I gotta stop at some point but I haven't figured out how to yet LOL! Maybe I should consider finding a breed who is bad to go broody and let mother nature do it herself a while... Yeah right, who am I tryin to kid here

LOL I know right? But in the end its more than worth it. What I usually do is take a hot hands and wrap it in a wash cloth so that it doesnt become too warm right against them in the brooder but they can actually huddle around it. I usually put 3 or 4 in there that way and try to keep them all together with the blanket around em but you gotta watch for runaways they like to climb over the blanket. I guess if you could imagine the blanket as a nest and the hot hands just kinda mixed in with em. Also doesnt hurt to use the water bottles if u dont have enough hot hands. The babies will kind of be your certain way of knowing whats too hot and whats just right.

And yes, those r the exact "hot hands" i was referencing lol they come in different sizes so just kinda go with flow when trying to pic which you prefer.

I have had 3 incubators going around the clock for a YEAR!! I just can't let an egg go unhatched. If they don't sell, they incubate. My husband bought me a Dickeys 300 egg incubator for CHRISTmas

now I have room to try new breeds. He also built me 9 more chicken runs. It's nice to have a hubby that understands the word "obsession"
