O "Hi" O

I did get some oyster shells today. I put them in a corner feeder in their run (at a height I felt would be out of Chickaleena's (named by my son) reach. I was rather surprised at the size and sharpness of the oyster shells. I expected them to be similar to chicken grit. I suppose the hens will have no issues eating it, but I am amazed that they can!

That's what my mom thinks...at one point she even thought she may be a Bantam that was mixed in with the Golden Comet chicks. I dismissed it though - especially since her feathers haven't come in completely yet. She really is a sweet girl! I am a little miffed though because I kept her inside longer than the other girls, so she used to run up to me. Now, she runs from me a lot. The bigger chickens are really good with her though. I think one of them even thinks the little one is her chick. She always lets her stand under her, and she has pecked me a couple of times when I have tried to pick the little one up!

I think she is adorable, and apparently so does the hen that is mothering her. I think she is fine but, small. As long as the others don't bully her I would leave her with the flock. If things turn rough, I think she would make a great housepet. BWC has a very active thread "people with house chickens.

My friend has had different breeds as house chickens for over 20 years. She doesn't raise them or sell eggs. They are just for pets. Currently she has 2 silkies and 2 seramas.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Yes, I agree with the others....I would feed a flock raiser of some sort or even chick starter so that she is not forced to eat food with calcium in it. Oyster shell on the side.

I hope she lives a long happy life!
