I have a hen that occasional twitches her necks like she is having a spasm. Maybe one or twice a day for a few seconds. it is always when she is either roosting or resting. Never when she is out and about eating, digging, etc. This has been going on for 4-6 weeks. Sometimes, if I pet her neck around the collar bone area she will do a brief twitch. She acts normal in every other way. I am sure that it is not an illness. None of the other chickens have this problem. Possibly, a pulled muscle or minor neck injury. (I have seen this with sports injuries in humans. They will have brief muscle spasms with pulled ligiments.) Is it even possible for this to happen to a chicken? Is it something to be concerned about? I was told by a vet that their necks are sensitive and injury to it can be serious.

I know this may sound petty compared to some other the emergencies on this forum. So, if someone can respond before Monday - the day of her vet appointment - that would be nice.

Thank You

I have not had that experience. I would not spend the money if she eats and gets around well. I saw a chick doing that on day 1 or maybe day 2. Called the supplier , Meyers, and they said if it did not go away on it's own to call them back. Next day it was gone and never came back. I think it was one of my Barred Rocks.

Thanks for your reply. I wonder why they do it? I will see this weekend. If it doesn't get worse or stays the same, I won't take her. Eventhough, it is fun to take her to Petsmart afterward. (Its near the vet.) A chicken in a pet store attracts quite a bit of attention. My chickens seem to like the attention and treats they are given there.
