my (older style) oct 20 motor has died on me so the fan no longer turns. the heating still works but of course doesnt get distributed anymore around the incubator.
the motor in the unit is a heidolph 240v (118.08.00024) ive searched and searched online but cant find one?
do any of you techy type people know of another small motor i could use to drive the fan, that will fit in the casing of the older octogan 20's??

hi its an ac 240v
id had a quick look on ebay but am useless at this kind of thing so dont know what is similar or not...(hence me asking here for help :))

I'd suggest you check with the incubator manufacturer, but it appears to be a typical fan motor used in most small fans, like bathroom exhaust fans. It's not so much size that's important, but mounting hole placement. Sometimes these fans can be replaced with what is know as a muffin fan, those used in computers.
If the windings aren't burnt out, sometimes you can get them running by oiling the top & bottom bearings of the motor. It's nice to be able to take them apart & clean the shaft with some steel wool, put a drop of oil on the bearings & reassemble

ive emailed both brinsea and heidolph, both say they cant help as the motor is no longer produced. ive mailed back asking can they recommend another motor that is similar.......
no reply as of yet....

ooooh Bill you angel!! just oiled up the bearings (where i could reach anyhow, cant take the **** thing apart any further than it is) and its spinning!!! its spinning! keep your fingers crossed for me that it keeps spinning!!! gonna go and put the rest all back together now and see what it does.....

If the motor has been assembled by someone, it can be disassembled. Normally there is 2 bearing caps, one on each side. Sometimes they are pressed into the main housing so it looks like they won't come off, but they do. The giveaway would be bolts on each side of the bearings housing holding the bearings on . The bearing housings are normally made of aluminum. Inside these housings are either bronze bushings or very small ball bearings, either of them benefit from a drop of oil from time to time
