i was looking at the chicks today and one of them has an odd lump on its rear end. I thought it might be poop at first but it doesn’t appear to be at the vent. What is it? What should I do? He/she hatched within the last day or two if that helps.

She has a prolapsed vent or cloaca. Keep it cleaned off and put some honey or hydrocortisone cream on it to help reduce the swelling. If you don’t have one of those, use another mild oil like veg oil, coconut, or vaseline. Take a QTip moistened with oil and probe just insie the vent opening to see if there is poop stuck inside. Prolapses can occur from constipation or straining in young chicks, but also may be a defect.

How likely is it that she will survive?

There’s also one chick who lost part of his upper beak. What should I do about that?

Are you sure it’s a prolapse? It doesn’t seem to be hanging from her vent, you can’t tell from the picture but it’s a ways past her vent.

Can you get a few more pictures?
Are you sure this chick is pooping?

It looked like vent to me since there are white urates around the vent. You might post a picture of the chick with the missing part of the upper beak for suggestions.
I’ll get better pictures as soon as I can. Here’s a picture of the beak one.
