Not sure if this is the right thread for this, apologies if it isn't, I just didn't see one that really fit the topic. Anyway, I have a Black Ameraucana cockerel with these odd indentations/crimping on his tail feathers. At first I thought it was just damage (I got him at ~6 wks of age and he obviously had a brooder mate with a serious feather picking issue). But his new tailfeathers are growing in and seem to have the same issue... Any ideas what causes this and what it's called? Pics are all of the same feather, from both sides, this is one he dropped at about 4 months of age. You can see where at the tip the indentations are actually deep enough to create a "cut" in the feather.

I would say due to stress, i had some feather out like that due to extreme heat and dryness.

Thanks guys, that would make sense. Just wasn't sure if it was environmental or genetic.
