Hello!
I have a little Porcelain D'Uccle named Snowflake. She's about 7 months old now. She's part of a current flock of 11. 1 bantam rooster, 5 large hens and 4 other bantams. They all run together during the day on our 6 acre hobby farm. But, majority of the time when we go out to feed or spend time with them she's about 2 acres over by herself. She tends to wander alone unless her best chicken buddy "Puffy Cheeks" comes over and encourages her to follow her back to the flock. Even then she is often hesitant. She also doesn't run. She kind of half runs with a hop. We've inspected her feathered feet and and legs multiple times and there's nothing wrong with her.

So, basically is lone behavior like this normal?? I've never owned one of this breed. She's very sweet and friendly toward us. She just isn't aggressive. Often times she stands back and doesn't compete for food with the others. Puffy Cheeks brings her tidbits.

Any feedback on anything I should be concerned about?

Thanks!!

My d'uccle hens have been a bit more aloof. Yours could be at the bottom of the pecking order so she avoids the flock. Because of the feathers on their feet they do have a shuffling run that is adorable. Like a kid with too big of slippers on.

I have had birds of many breeds that stick to themselves. Not every chicken likes being in the flock, some are just loners.

My porcelain D'uccle is the same way. She is by no means shy or at the bottom of the pecking order. She is just very independent and not afraid to venture away from the others. She also seems to find more goodies than the rest, maybe because she doesn't have them around competing for bugs. If your girl is eating and drinking and seems healthy then I wouldn't worry.

My porcelain d'Uccle too is very much the loner and is almost always by himself unless the white d'Uccle, who is a total social butterfly, comes to join him. Maybe it's a breed thing.
