I have two hens one about 1.5 yrs old and the other just started laying, I think she is about 8 mos old. Since I got them this summer they have ALWAYS gone into their coop and slept in their nesting box, or at least in the shed part of the coop. The past week or so, one started spending the night on the top step of my deck, and now after a night or two they are BOTH up on the step leaving all kinds of chicken poop on my steps. I don't mind so much to clean up the poop, I am just worried that something is wrong with my girls... any advice or ideas?
Thanks.

Maybe they are trying to be closer to you.

But I would put them up in the coop every night. If they are sleeping on your steps a predator might eventually get them. You should be able to lure them in with treats. They will get used to sleeping in the coop again.
