I have a chicken named Loongu (fluffy black Silkie in my profile picture), and she's pretty weird.
One of her oddest quirks is how she's treated by other chickens. She absolutely never gets into dominance fights, but she gets out of the way of higher ranked chickens, and no chicken ever even tries to fight her. And when she's protecting babies, she will shoo off our alpha hen.
My theory is that because she's our oldest chicken, and has been in our yard longer than any other, she gets some sort of special protection from our rooster (she often hangs around him). Almost every chicken we own is a descendant of her, too.
What are your thoughts on this curious chook?
