Odd Question about Predators and Chickens

I've heard from an old farmer that keeping a tom turkey with the hens will keep rats/mice/coons/skunks and the like away. Is there any truth to this? He swears by it and was convincing me to buy some poults from a hatchery.

definate no-no with chicken hens

probably yes with turkey hens

maybe never had experience with it, but i heard your not supposed to put turkeys with them cause of diseases like black-head.
but i have seen people do it with no problems

about the mice, chickens might kill them, i have seem mine get snakes and frogs
