Odd question...but does your duck like water and swimming?

All of my ducks have been inseperable from their pond since about 4-5 weeks of age (Runners, Swedish, Cayuga). However, I drained their pond and refilled it recently... and now they are terrified of it. Won't even drink from it. Hopefully, they get over that quickly, since the pond occupies 1/3 of their run!

I've heard alot of adult ducks slowly stop playing in the ponds as much as when younger. I'm new to ducks tho, so only time will tell.

my scovies aren't really a fan of swimming either. they just bathe and want out. lol. when they were ducklings and could fit into the drinking water bowl, they would in there and bathe and then get out. when they were ducklings, they never darted under water. i feel like i got ripped off hahahaha my ducks don't quack and they don't like to swim in water lol i'm kidding, i loves my duckies

Both my Pekins (1 year olds), love to swim. BUT... Fluffy will swim anywhere, anytime and float sleeping all day if he can. Jessie is more picky. He will SWIM in the bathtub and deep water, but is really cautious when he can feel the bottom, so he jumps in his small baby pool to bathe and out he comes.

When we moved, Fluffy wouldn't come near water (except the tub), for over a month. For a duck who is such a splashy swim-bug, it was so sad.

The new ducklings had their first bath today in the handy-dandy plastic paint-roller thingy (with the ramp). Of course they freaked out at first, but then they were bathing and splashing away. Since it is so hot here now I think everyone took a long soak!

They seem to differ. Just personality.

Alot of our Muscovys love water. But we had one that was raised with chickens and he seemed to think I was stupid when I put him in water. He refused to swim and thought he was a chicken until we finally gave him to a lonely momma duck.

I've found paint trays are great for introducing ducklings to water. The sloped ramp lets them go in as deep as they want and the deep end lets them paddle when they are real little. All my ducks, kakhis and Cayugas love water and will jump in any container they can, even the dogs water dish. They have a kiddy pool that gets dumped and refilled daily.

I actually had a duck that was afraid of water. From the first time she was put into the kitchen sink she fought to get out straight away. I ended up curing her of her fear at around 2 months old by getting into a pool with her a few times...Now she loves water and cant wait for a daily swim.

I have a pair of Cayugas, so I picked up a kiddie pool for them, now that they're outside all the time. (Well, they sleep in the coop with the chickens at night.)

Anyway, Louie the drake loves to float quietly on the surface of the water, which is probably only 9 or 10 inches deep. He will occasionally do some major splashing,

and stand on his feet and reach WAY up with his wings and flap a lot, but mostly he's into quiet floating.

Thelma, on the other hand, wants to SWIM. She gets in, splashes to get wet all over, then dives under the surface and ZOOOOMS around the pool walls. This causes a huge wake which bumps Louie right out of the pool.

Well, we can't have that! I looked online, found, and ordered a 300 gallon stock tank, which was delivered yesterday. Mwaaahaaaahaaaaaahaaaaaa! I'm going to set it up this weekend. It's got a drain - WOOT!! WOOT! - so I won't have to do that horribly disgusting, hose-sucking siphon thing any more!

And Thelma can dive and swoosh and ZOOOOM to her heart's content, with plenty of space for spectacular aquatic acrobatics. I can hardly wait to throw some peas in the tank when it's all filled up and the ducks are in it!
