Odd Rooster Behavior

My beautiful Barred Rock rooster has been doting on my mom and I, but he attacks my brother. I was just wondering how many others had odd rooster behaviors too?
Also, why are certain hens' saddles messed up but my other ladies are fine?

There is probably a long answer to this and someone with more rooster experience will provide it but a rooster will attack anything he thinks is a threat. His being friendly with you is a good sign he thinks people are chickens or he is a people. Was he hand-raised by any chance?

As far as the hens go, roosters have their favorites and those are the ones who get the most….affection. How many hens do you have?

Your brother is a male, so is the rooster. The rooster knows this and is defending his flock. He'll likely turn on your mom soon, how old is he?

We have 9 as of right now and yes, he was hand raised. I trained him as a chick when we thought he was a hen.

That’s not a bad ratio. I’ve raised some naughty roosters accidentally. Fortunately they all live with my mom now and she has a high tolerance for nonsense. I do not. My last naughty boy became someone’s dinner and now that I have a good rooster it makes a world of difference for me and the hens

Generally speaking, he thinks he can win with your brother. I would expect him to become more aggressive and more brave and be attacking you and your mother soon.

As for wear and tear on hens, some of it depends on the hen, her balance and her type of feathers, plus the age of the rooster Ridgerunner once reported that she culled birds like that, and the problem went away. So in other words, not just the roosters fault.

This time of year - they are molting, and just look tough.
