So at the end of the day, I usually shut my 2 roos away a bit earlier than the hens. Today i peeked in the house as I could hear stomping around, and saw one of the roosters on top of the other trying to mate him. This was quite weird, as it’d had probably been 10 minutes without the hens. From what I thought, it was the less dominant rooster (but more stupid) doing it. Is this common?

I have seen this too, when a roo is very docile, but I don't think it is common. More common is for the lees dominant male be driven into hiding or being killed. Often to, is for the dominant male to accept the presence of the less dominant, but kept at a distance. Some breeds seem more accepting than other breeds.

Based on what you are describing, the birds were actually fighting.
It’s not, it’s exactly what he does when he mates a hen. They don’t actually fight that often, surprisingly. (Although they have been with each other since about 3 days old)

Hopefully it won’t come to that, they worse fight I’ve seen them have was just about bumping into each other.

Certainly sounds like an act of dominance. :)

Although, a couple years back, I kept a rooster who genuinely preferred other roosters to hens. We christened him, "Gabriel." ;) Sound that out carefully. Poor guy picked a favorite male whom he tormented day in, and day out. Needless to say, things got out of hand really quickly.

That’s not even funny. That kinda thing happens more often with rooster flocks where everyone pretends they get along so well. Meanwhile there’s a poor rooster in there getting beaten up left and right.

No worries, Gabriel didn't last long. We don't tolerate such behaviors to the point where true physical harm is done. Hence why only 5% of roosters actually make the cut around here.

I'm so sorry for causing conflict. Certainly never my intention.
