Odd things in the nesting box

For the second time in a week this has showed up in our nesting boxs. Does anyone know why a hen would output something like this?

Is the mass solid and rubbery or is it more like an empty/partially empty membrane of a shell-less egg? If it's the former, that would be what is commonly called a "lash egg".

I that your nesting box....no bedding in there....do they sleep in the nesting box?

Would be good to cut that open to know what's inside.
