So I have five hens and as far as I know only one has been laying this year. She's laid about 25 eggs and was acting boody on the ceramic egg in the nest box so we gave her back 6 of her eggs. Well a few days after giving her back the eggs she got off the nest to go eat. I looked in and there were 2 extra eggs. And I found another small one in there today. The eggs are very small about the size of a chicken egg. She's kind of a cranky hen so I don't think she'd let any of the other ladies lay in her nest right? She's definitely broody but broody hens don't lay? I'm so confused about these eggs any help would be appreciated.

I'm guessing someone is sneaking them in. I've caught some of my crankiest hens with other girls in their nests....
When they're in the mind to hatch eggs, those other ladies will happily supply them. If you can, catch her when she gets off the nest and remove them each day. Or reach under her if you're brave. Mark the eggs you want hatched so they stay (if you haven't already).

Thank you so much for your reply. We had the eggs marked, but unfortunately we had to pull all of the eggs this morning. Somehow 2 of the eggs in the nest got broken (I think they ate the shells though) and the rest of the eggs were covered in yolk. We were cleaning them and decided to candle too and they all had detached air cells and no development. We were going to give her some of the New eggs we know are fertile but they're on the small side for turkeys and aren't sure if we should? Were moving them to a New bigger run tomorrow anyway so maybe it's for the best.
