I don’t interact with them much, other than to grab them to put them in the free ranging trailer every few days and sometimes a once-in-a-bluemoon mealworm treat. Yet, somehow this hen has grown pretty calm around me. Can’t complain!

My rooster on the other hand is still fairly skittish, lol.

My quails also seem to have a complete disregard for the cats 😬 One of the younger ones flew the brooder and proceeded to make it’s way under the cat.

In my experience, some skittish or spastic individuals will calm down as they reach maturity and fill out, usually by the onset of egg laying. A few of my quail hens are coming of age and no longer care if my hand bumps them, when a few weeks ago they would have shirked away.

Mine don't care about cats or dogs, either. They have a healthy wariness of hawks, though.

Even though Anubis is hatched and raised inside if I take him out he instinctively looks for hawks too 😂

Can’t bode well for these little guys if they ever fly the coop 🤣 I wonder if it’s because they were raised around dogs and cats?

When something benign like a turkey vulture flies overhead they all systematically freeze and go grrr!, it's adorable.

When they were wee blighters a few weeks old, the cats would hang out with them just outside the tractor and they didn't mind. The cats sometimes go visit them while they're in the coop, although the cats have gotten over the novelty by now so the visits are infrequent. Maybe they have a diminished response to natural enemies, or maybe they knew they were safe in the tractor/coop, i dunno.
