REALLY?!? Hmm! Might have to try that...

What if you crossed the recessive white chick back to a black based lavender? Would it still be 50/50 lav/rec white?

It would be if the rec white was hom for lav and the lav was het for rec white.

Ok, if the recessive white came out of lav parents and it has 2 copies of the gene and the lav is carrying one copy of recessive white (if it were a parent of the rec white for example), then yes, it would work

I'm actually not too surprised. I've been raising rosecombs in blue splash and white for a few years now and chick down colors sometimes has absolutely nothing to do with the color of the chicks feathers when they come in. Right now I have a group of chicks that have chick fluff that ranges in color from white to black. Some of the fluff is actually white, and some have yellow. The greys in between range from the lightest of light greys to almost black. Does this give me a clue to the color of the feathers that will come in? Nope, not a chance I'd be that lucky. One of the white colored ones had darkish skin and it's coming in as a splash....which was kind of expected. Some of the lightest of the light colored blues are coming in with dark blue feathers, and some are coming in white. One is actually coming in...can you believe it, light blue! *lol* The dark blue fluffy chick is coming in way lighter blue than it's fluff. I've pretty much given up trying to predict chick feather color from fluff color.

One things that I do find though is that the chicks with "white" fluff tend to feather in as blue, while those with yellow fluff tend to have white feathers.
