One of my Jersey Giants had gone broody. So, where's the prime real estate? In the nest? nope...that'd make sense. UNDER THE ROOSTS!! In the poop zone!

I have tried moving her, putting wood over her "nest" to deter her...nothing works. That is HER spot (even though she doesn't have eggs there).

Fluffs up, growls and bites to protect a poopy, eggless nest.

My method to fix the problem...or rather compromise with her since she is being an evil, stubborn broody...I stuck a garbage can (like the 32 gal plastic trash cans) on its side and stuck it under there (facing outwards, so the roosts are above and behind her, but not in front of her), so at least she has fresh bedding and won't get pooped on. We use the deep litter method, so it is stable and won't roll around. As a reward for staying in there, I gave her 11 eggs. She is now content.

Crossing my fingers this works seeing as how nothing else has yet....

i have Barbrock hen that does the same thing. besides the poop, all the other hens want to donate some eggs to the cause. there will be 15 to 20+. they come sit next to her and she trys to keep all the eggs under her and they won't all stay. so after four weeks, I have to make her give up with a 100% failure rate. such wasted talent.

I'll try the trash can method

We deal with "donations" as well.

I use a pencil and put an X on both ends of the egg (the middle will just get rubbed clean, hence the ends). Then, each night, I take the non-X eggs away. It worked for my other two hens that have gone broody. But, they are also sweeter birds and don't bite. I think this bird will require gloves.

I am thinking she won't be getting too many donations though...her "prime" real estate isn't exactly the Beverly Hills of nests.

- In the poop zone, wow!! I'd never really think of a girl to go broody there!!

Well, she is staying the trash can now, so I guess we agreed to compromise. Or rather, I gave in to her nasty location with a clean alternative.

They will surely pick some odd spot's.We had 2 hen's that free ranged and decided to use the lawn sweeper as a nest box lol.I just posted about one we never knew even had chicks and missing for week's and had given her up as apparent fox food.Found eggs in planters and everything here lol.Hubby got 2 on his lawn tractor seat once.Hens went in small hole under tool shed door lol
.And we had some lay in feed can's as well for month's we used the big metal ones for feed and daughter left lid off for 3 days and hens got in there so we left lid off for them lol then.
