I lost my favorite RIR, Tri to a dog attack on Sunday.

Of course it had to be Tri. She is in my avatar. I had let the hens out to free range. I only do it in the evenings when I am home and only for short periods of time. It wouldn't be so bad if it was a wild predator but it was the neighbors dog, came onto my property and hurt Tri. I don't know if I could have saved her or not but I know I did not have proper time to nurse her back to health so we put her down. Now even on a perfect day, I'll only get 11 eggs.

All in all, I think the good lord is testing my willingness to forgive.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Chickens can and alot of times are just as much a pet as a dog pr cat, and it is just as devestating to lose one.

Yeah its always the best ones. Last year I had 13 in their teenage stage and I was keeping them in a rabbit hutch in my yard until they could move in with the big ones and I forgot my chicken killer dog Yoshi learned to flip the latch thus opening the hutch. I forgot to put the block back up after feeding she killed 8 of them at 11pm on a monday, ON MY BIRTHDAY!!!
