Of Feathers And Flames- A Wings of Fire AU RP

Crest watched as all the dragons seemed to be conversing. He felt content to wait. Several other dragons joined into the conversation including a rainwing and a skywing. They all seemed to be well versed in the Den and he could see that their bodies showed it too. They were all covered in scars and memories of the past fights they'd been in. He wondered how on earth they'd all managed to stay sane through it all. He was there for only a few days and had almost gone insane. These dragons are so strong. What am I compared to them?
Then, he looked at the human. The way he looked at the dragonette. There was somethng different about him. He seemed so gentle. So caring for the dragons. Just as humans and dragons should be.
The bluntness of Sol in describing where his scars were from shocked Crest slightly. He's not even trying to sugarcoat it for young ears is he.
Crest was afraid that the solarwing was going to start describing the arena and what happened inside when Shard asked what it was so he added his two cents. "Shard, the arena is a bad place where dragons get hurt. But, thanks to people like August," he said nodding towards the human and changing the subject, "we don't have to go through that anymore." He couldn't bare to see the young dragonette afraid. She's so close to her age when it happened....

Tobias scoffed gently, arching his brow and shaking his head as he repositioned himself. "I played a part. A very small part." He glanced up at Crest. "This was definitely a group effort, I'm just blessed to have gotten dragged into it."
Sol rolled his eyes, wishing Tobias wouldn't underline his supposed insignificance. It made them both look bad.
"Where are you from, Shard?" Sol questioned, with a tone of haste. "Are you from The Den? The Scorpion Den? Do you know what I'm even talking about?"
"Bro." Kass commented.
Sol shot him a quick glare.

Shard backed away from Sol, feeling equally as indignant as she was suddenly unnerved.
"Of course, I know what the Scorpion Den is," she said, any note of offense buried beneath her anxiety. "We were just in that horrible place, and Mother told me awful stories of it all the time." She took another space back, finding more solace now in Crest's presence than in Sol's. The Seawing was much more calm and gentle than the fiery dragon.
"I hate the Den," she whimpered, tears springing into her eyes. "I'm not from there. I wish I'd never been there."

King leapt upwards into the sky, unfurling his huge blue and white wings and catching the air gracefully. He kept one talon protectively over Knight and the pouch he rested in, careful not to drop him. Once they were in the air king glanced down at the bustling town. “It’s oddly peaceful for me, the town I mean. I was raised in a trading city, nothing ever got quiet there. But here, In the Nest it’s different, you’re not a dragon on display for humans to oogle at or bid on. You’re free.
Sometimes I sneak up to the watchtower at the north tip of the island and watch the sky at night…you never could do that in the metal holding domes..” he said, a small smile appearing at the side of his mouth.
(sorry Josh I must’ve missed this)

“Trading city?” Phoenix asked, joining King in the sky. The air felt good on her feathers. “Corvus likes to watch the stars,” she said thoughtfully. “Speaking of…”
Shard backed away from Sol, feeling equally as indignant as she was suddenly unnerved.

Sol's brow creased for a quick moment, then he gave a nod, glancing back at the SkyWing.
"Why?" Sol started, giving Cas a critical expression. "Because I wanted to."
Kal snorted, miming a pair of spectacles, he pushed his face up to Cas. "QuItE SimPlE, rEaLlY- bea-cuz ay wonted tuh."

Cas snorted an laugh, pushing Kal’s face away from him with a smirk. “Well why? Doesn’t he belong in the—” Tobias cut him off.

Cas jumped slightly, startled when the man spoke Dragon. “Well that’s not creepy at all,” he muttered, staring uneasily at the human.

Sol scoffed and looked away.
She was crying. Crying.
And he didn't feel bad about it.
He felt annoyed.

Gosh, they didn't belong here. Where dragons gathered who had actually suffered and hated the Scorpion Den with every fiber of their being. Sol had SURVIVED because of the Scorpion Den. And he did like his job, and he was not going to deny it. How could someone except him to just switch over opinions, beliefs?
He had survived, they hadn't.
He was just that good, they weren't.
"Hey, brother," Tobias leaned against Sol slightly, catching the dragon's attention.
Sol swung his head around with a determined look. "We should leave for the Kingdom of Sun. With Helios. We should leave when we get back to this Checkpoint."
Tobias blinked. "What."
"Helios said we could go. And I want to. You'll be s- you'll be fine. He'll- tell them not to eat you."
"Comforting. What's wrong, partner?"
"I've just been thinking about it. I think-.. I think we should go."
"To the Kingdom of Sun." Tobias clarified.
"My-.." Sol sucked in a sharp breath, still speaking in quite tones. "My home, yes. I want to see it. I want to see my mother. My dragons... I want to see where I belong."
Tobias shook his head, leaning his full weight against the SolarWing. "You belong, buddy. Circumstances don't determine-"
"No, Tobias, it's fine." Sol half snapped. "I don't want to talk about it anymore."
Sol winced at his own selfish words, but Tobias obliged his request, thankfully.
The SolarWing didn't dare glance towards the IceWing. He was loosing his temper. And he knew why.
But it was just easier to live in denial.

The icewing was backing up towards Crest and away from Sol. He could hear the shake in her young voice as she spoke and he instinctively dropped his wing closer to her almost in comfort. Sol then went to speaking to Tobias. Crest couldn't understand the solarwing. He had heard about Prince Sol when he was a child, but this dragon seemed so different. Could the Scorpion Den change people this much?
Crest leaned his head down to look at Shard more on her eye level. "Shard, none of us wish we had been there. But, we've escaped from that horrid place and we're free to go back home." A thought struck Crest, "Shard, where is your home?"

“Isn’t the Ice Kingdom?” Cas asked, tilting his head at Shard with curious eyes. Tobias and Sol’s friendliness was unsettling him, and he didn’t want to engage the man again if he could avoid it.

(Ooo- I had an idea. What if Raptor adopted Shard? (I mean, unless you have other plans) She is half IceWing after all and runs this next checkpoint.)

Whitestar lowered a wing behind Alyssia, gently brushing her back with the edges of the fold. He opened his mouth to comfort her, pausing when he couldn't find the words.
A human's voice echoed through the halls and Whitestar recognized Austin's voice calling Alyssia's name. The Icewing let out an irritated snort before turning his gaze back to the small girl beside him.
"Unfortunately, that slimeball happens to be looking for you. We ran into one of the hunters before I came to find you."
He paused a moment longer, tilting his head in consideration.
"Do we have to follow him to search the Den? I'm not sure I can put up with him much longer."

@Yukiko
Lol I realized that Whitestar and Alyssia are speaking different languages. I'm gonna roll with it though.

The cold wing lowered behind Alyssia comfortingly. Even though the icewing was radiating the cold, she couldn't help but feel a warmth from his kind nature. The sound of Austin's voice echoed down the halls. She didn't want to see him. She was tired of him. Whitestar spoke to her and she caught some of the words and pieced together what he was trying to get across to her. She chuckles slightly at the thought that she had probably just taught Whitestar the English word "slimeball."
Her emotions were still swirling and she didn't know if she would be of much use to anyone, but she decided that they needed to leave. She hated to admit it, but something in Austin's yell sounded worried and that made Alyssia worried too.
She sighed and tried her best to answer in Dragonese, "Yes, for now, we follow." Her mouth turned upwards with her mischievous smile, but it didn't seem to mix with her tear ridden face. "I have plan for him."
Austin's voice was getting closer and Alyssia turned in the direction of the voice. She still didn't feel ready at all to get back into the adventure, but she didn't have a choice. Before she shouted, she looked back at Whitestar, walked towards him, and hugged his neck while his head was closer to the ground. "Thank you."
turning back, she shouted, "Austin! We're this way!"

“Thank you,” Raptor flashed a grin to the bored bankteller who traded her check for some of the money she’d earned. The dragoness pocketed her earnings in her satchel as the teller nodded flatly. Raptor glanced down the street and walked back onto the main road.
Almost instantly, she spotted two burly NightWings among the crowd—armored and carrying riders on their backs. The hybrid dragon drew in a breath and looked away, trying to act casual as she kept an eye on the pair as they walked past, surveying the passing dragons in the crowd. They seemed to be looking for someone.
“What in the—” Raptor, among several others, looked up at the shadows of three more NightWings flying overhead. “What? Why?” She muttered to herself, thoroughly alarmed. They must’ve all arrived this afternoon, but what (or who) were they looking for?
The dragoness made her way back home with shockingly no trouble. The black dragons payed no heed to her.

Raptor slung her satchel onto a small table, a troubled look on her face.
“NightWings?” She muttered to herself incredulously. “Why?” And not even ordinary NightWings—dragon hunters. She shook her head, going back over to her satchel to hang it up. When she picked it up, a folded piece of paper fluttered to the ground. Raptor tilted her head, picked it up, and read it:

“Chekpiont.”
