Of Feathers And Flames- A Wings of Fire AU RP

Shrike lay with his head on his talons, staring sullenly at the vendor across from him.
In the cage.
Again.
His neck and body ached and he was sure his chin was still bleeding. “Why’d you gotta do that last little attack, huh Kapok?” He knew the LeafWing had to be in pain from Sol’s flames. Shrike huffed and shook his head, looking over at him. “You- you okay buddy?”
Kapok shifted stiffly to look at Shrike. It felt like every muscle and scale on his body was still burning. There was hardly any way he could lie down without irritating the burns. He flopped down on the bottom of the cage again and gave Shrike a miserable look.

Shrike grimaced and turned around towards Kapok’s cage. “We’ll get outta here soon. Promise. Who cares if the other twelve times I tried to escape didn’t work out, that was before I had you! Now we’re gonna escape, then we’ll be able ta get out an go wherever we want as long as it’s away from this pit o snakes an never see that jerk of a dragon again, alright?”
The CloudWing tapped the side of his head. “As long as Shane doesn’t move us around tonight, I gotta great plan that definitely doesn’t include sumthin explodin and you bulldozin the NightWing patrol.” Shrike chuckled. “You up for it?”

Shrike waved away his doubtfulness. “Oh come on, it’s foolproof! So what if it didn’t work last time? Or the time before that? We’re gonna do it at night this time, they’ll never see it comin. Besides, if we don’t try, we’ll never know if it works, eh? Come on, don’t tell me you don’t want to at least try..” Shrike coaxed.

Kapok stood up and circled in his cage before dropping down again. He rested his head on his talons and stared at Shrike somewhat worriedly.

It felt crazy, trying to recruit two Lunarwings and a Solarwing he’d just met, but with their warping Helios was sure they could break into the SD much easier. Helios glanced at Sunspot as she spoke, then toward the hovering Lunarwing, Eclipse apparently. “ Well she’s a ray of sunshine isn’t she.” He thought, trying to ignore Sunspot. It took the Lunarwing what felt like an eternity to answer, but then she did and he didn’t know what to say. Helios glanced in the direction of the Scorpion Den and nodded his head slowly. “Twenty four hours. I can do that.” He said determinedly, relief sweeping over him. It seemed that Eclipse wanted to help, or wanted his help at the very least. She just wasn’t the type to ask for it.
Then the other Lunarwing spoke, he hadn’t caught her name.

“What’s in it for me?” She said, continuing speaking for a moment.

Helios flicked his tail, sending a small avalanche of sand cascading down the dune he stood on. “I told you, information. If you don’t want that…I suppose I could help you with your mission as well.” He replied. The three dragon stood or hovered around him, all thinking about there own plans and futures, but it seemed their paths had crossed for a reason and they weren’t meant to separate just yet.
Sunspot rolled her eyes at the drama of the whole situation. "Alright then, lets go! The sun will go out before you lazy-tails quit gravely muttering and arguing and bickering and gazing wistfully out at the horizon." she stomped her feet irritably, kicking the sand off. She took to the air and began spiraling over the group.
King laughed and could feel himself returning to his normal mood, slowly but surely. “Probably better teach you to use your talons instead of diving, since your feathers aren’t hydrophobic. Ever seen an eagle do it?” He asked, opening his wings and flying a tight circle around them both before going out on the lake just enough so the fish still hung around the shallow parts and he could still hear them respond. “You don’t wanna go too far out, cuz the fish’ll just swim deeper so you can’t grab em with your claws.” He then soared back along the beach for a short distance and picked up a small log, returning and promptly tossing it into the lake where he’d been before. “Now fly out a ways and let the fish come up to search the surface for bugs. Once they have, you swoop in like this..” he said, getting into an angled dive just above the waters surface and extending his back talons out with claws wide. “Then ya snatch em!” He said enthusiastically as his talons reached out and curled around the log then was in place of a fish. “Haha! Just like that! Except of course with a real fish, but you can practice with a log or stick or whatever! Osprey taught me that one.” He said happily, his smile infectious.
"Okay," Phoenix said, leaping into the air and accidentially wacking Corvus in the snout. "Ow!" the black dragon yelped, jumping back.

"Sorry," Phoenix called back, not looking back at him. Corvus watched, his snout and heart stinging as Phoenix joined King in the air, watching him yammer about angles and flight speed and trajectory and fish habitats. Phoenix was smiling at King and had just- what- smacked Corvus in the face and left him there?

Did Phoenix like King better than him? Corvus' mind raced, and he began to fidget with his claws. What if she left Corvus alone in favor of a better, shinier dragon?

"Screw this," he muttered, turning around and taking off, flying hard and fast. See if she even cares.

What about the whole scavenger incident

Kapok stood up and circled in his cage before dropping down again. He rested his head on his talons and stared at Shrike somewhat worriedly.
“Ya know what? I’ll pretend that’s a yes.” Shrike said, looking anywhere but Kapok’s eyes. “I’m gonna get some shuteye.” He flopped to the floor and lay his head on h the ground.

As Sol sauntered down the hallway, he quicky noticed the extreme pain in his shoulder.
Tobias hadn't said anything yet, but was slowly gaining on him.
Perhaps the LeafWing had done more then just drawn blood..
"Yeesh. You're limping, bud."
Sol stopped, giving Tobias a stupid look. "No way, Sherlock."
"Lemme see it."
Sol growled softly, lowering himself so that Tobias could inspect the wound.
He had barely glanced at the injury before Tobias said, "I'm taking you out."
"WHAT?"
Tobias raised his eyebrows and cocked his head, raising a finger to his lips.
"What do you mean, 'I'm taking you out'?" Sol hissed, lowering his voice.
Tobias held his expression, "We'll talk- on our way the the infirmary."
"INFIRMA- now look here, Tobe-"
"Sol! Sol, Sol, Sol, Sol, Sssol." Tobias leaned closer to the dragon, his eyes wide, "Shut up. Shut up, buddy."

A fracture. A very small facture. That was it.
And Tobias still wanted to take him out.
Sol followed Tobias out of the Infirmary, keeping his wing stiff and showing no sign of injury, though his shoulder did send a shooting pain throughout his wing with every step.
Tobias had answered his questions vaguely as a medic inspected his shoulder- but now they were leaving the Infirmary, and, gosh, Sol certainly hoped his questions would get a real answer.
"K, Tobias," Sol started, not bothering to hide his annoyance, "why am I out? Really, why?"
"Cuz, your gonna be training for the next two weeks- and you need to save energy." Tobias gave him a sly grin.
"Two weeks..- what? What's in two weeks?"
Tobias sighed, "Uhm.. Teams are starting up."
Sol hesitated. "Teams? Teams as in dragon teams- right? I don't have a team, right?"
"Dude, chill out."
Sol stopped mid-step. "You did not."
Tobias arched his brow, smiling gently, "I didn't what?"
Sol groaned.
"Did you see how the LeafWing and CloudWing fought so well together? You don't see that when you just throw dragons together. They all fight, and then team in desperation."
"You did not."
Tobias laughed. "Dirt cheap, bro."
"NOuughhh. NOT COOL, Tobe. Not. Cool."
"Yeah, except for the part where it is," Tobias turned sharply, punching in the code to their room and ushering Sol inside, following behind the dragon. "I bought a MudWing, too. Might be a hybrid, no biggie. I think I got us a team in the making."
"Four years. You traitor."
"Dude." Tobias snorted, holding his hands up defensively. "I'm not replacing you. Not at all." He sighed. "But I need you to be on board, Cuz. I don't know enough Dragon-"
"No, just.. no, they all hate me. I don't care, but, like, no one's gonna listen."
"Bud, just try it out."
Sol clenched his jaw.
Tobias gave him an expectant look.
"Alright! Fine. Whatever. Jus get the stupid dragons, and I'll help. They won't listen. But I'll help."

The SD was finally quiet, at least as quiet as it got with all the drunk humans and crackling bonfires and moaning dragons from the days fights. Dred lay there in his cage with his tail curled around him and his wing over his head listening to the dragons across from him talking, apparently planning an escape. Kopak and Shrike never seemed to get it, they were stuck here and unless a once in a lifetime opportunity came about, they weren't breaking out of here anytime soon. “You two are fools. You waste your energy on failed escape plans when you should save it…to destroy your enemies.” He said gruffly, shifting his weight so the small patch of mud in his cage was underneath his head, letting it seep into his scales.

Shrike’s head lifted. “What?” He said, a brow lifted. “Who asked you, MudWing? You think I got much on me to ‘destroy my enemies with’? Pff.” He swept his feathered tail around to the opposite side of his body restlessly.
