Of Feathers And Flames- A Wings of Fire AU RP

The human held a pair of wire cutters up to the bonds that held Helios. They glistened brightly with a wicked edge as they sliced through the ropes and loosed his wings. Helios flexed his wings and wondered why he hadn’t killed this human already. A needle sat empty of its contents on the counter beside him, with a label he couldn’t read.
Muscle relaxer and aggression dampener. It read.
Oh wow! These are remarkable!! I’ve never seen anyth- or anyone, with this pattern! And you say it’s genetic?! Oh the Genetics Guild would kill for your dna!” He said in astonishment, lifting up the huge dragons wings as best he could and climbing underneath them to see better, the way young dragonets used to climb under his wings when the mountain kingdoms winds got too cold. Helios stood up and rolled off of the elevated platform he’d been on, standing up and wincing loudly at the pain in his neck. He looked down and could see dried blood had caked up all down his chest and neck, some still fresh oozing over the already dried blood just from the movement.

“Oh no, no, no! This won’t do, that needs bandaged! You don’t want to ruin your magnificent scales before auction! Or bleed to death, that’d do no one any good! Although an autopsy would reveal a good amount about your unique anatomy, I’d rather you stay alive and tell me what you can do!” He said enthusiastically, moving the ladder over to directly infront of Helios neck. His huge teeth loomed over the human, the power to snuff the life out of him was right there…but, why? For what?
“Well I hate humans…. But he’s just curious…maybe he’s just oblivious to the war between the two of us.”
As the human wrapped a large roll of bandaging material around his neck, he decided to let him finish before eating him, if he was going to at all.
“Where are we?” Helios asked, looking around at the surrounding room. It was a very large space with tables set up to hold dragons of many sizes, and cabinets holding needles and large books each with a unique symbol for every dragon species. The overhead lights were dimmer thankfully, not as eyeball burning as the others and a large door that seemed to slide upwards was in the wall in front of him. His way out.
“Oh we’re a bit into “The Maze” but it’s not really all that maze-y. Once you’ve spent most your life down here wonderin when the other scientists will allow you into the guild….you get it all layed out in your brain!” He answered with a smile, but it seemed to flicker away for a moment as he spoke and then return. It was still amazing how much dragonese this human knew, like he’d only ever talked to dragons.
Helios could hear a commotion outside, a bang and a gasp of pain.
“Oh they better not be here to raid me again! It’s always-” the human started, but stopped as soon as soon as the door opened and a head poked through. It was a dragon, a Lunarwing! It was Eclipse!
“Helios!” She had shouted as the king lowered his head to block the human from her sight. And then a Seawing came in, looking like he’d killed someone. Crest.
“W-what are you two doing here?! How’d you even find me! How are you free?!” He asked incredulously, surging forward and wrapping his wings around the two of them for a moment.

The human stared at them all, And then instinctively reached for something in his pocket….

(Lol don’t kill him btw 😂)
Eclipse tensed as Helios pulled her and Crest into his enormous wings. His wings were pleasantly warm, but the feeling of his and Crest's scales sliding against hers made her more uncomfortable than she could remember being in a while. She was relieved that Helios was pleased to see her again, alive and somewhat free, but she barely knew the Solarwing. To top it off, he was royalty--the king of his tribe nonetheless--and even though it was adorable how much of a softy he was toward the two younger dragons, it was very strange to her.
She wriggled slightly in his embrace, glancing around at the other dragons in the lot.
"Yeah, it's good to see you too," she said awkwardly, gently pulling out of his wings and flashing him a small smile, feeling the scales beneath her eyes warm with embarrassment. "I didn't know you knew Crest," She took another pace back and swept her gaze over the lot.
"We have to hurry though. We don't know how long before the humans discover we-"
She broke off as she spotted the human standing behind Helios. His hand was buried in one of the pockets on his coat and he was watching them all with wide eyes.
The warping blade was already hovering menacingly over the man's throat and Eclipse curled her lips back in a snarl.
"Three moons, how many of these pests are in here?"
Helios smiled back at her, a sudden sadness tearing at his mind for only a second as a picture of his daughter with the same fierce eyes took eclipses place. It vanished immediately and he looked away, towards Crest. “I’m glad you’re alive, Soldier, I wasn’t sure if…well, nevermind.” He said, trailing off and just smiled at the Seawing.
Eclipses face told him she’d seen the human by now and a warping blade had made its way straight to the humans throat. “Woah, woah wait. I dont think he’s like the others….” He said, placing his wing claw atop the blade that was held in the air by some invisible force and keeping it from moving any closer.
The doctor had let out a surprised sound when the blade had sped toward him, dropping the camera he’d pulled from his cargo pant’s pocket underneath the lab coat and staring at the Lunarwing. “Oh my…oh wow…you’re an….you’re a….Lunarwing!” He shouted excitedly in dragon, still not moving from where he stood. He reached up and combed his hair through, making it look as if he’d been electrified and his eyes were wide with amazement. “I can’t believe this! They sent me a Lunarwing to study! Me! A Lunarwing! Wow! How old are you? How tall are you! Where’d you come from? Is this the warping?” He asked in a hurry, reaching out and touching the silver blade, nicking his finger and pulling it back immediately, “wow, this is incredible! If I new how to create this, I could change the world!”

Helios watched the human rant, then turned back to eclipse. “He’s a little bit odd.” He admitted with an amused grin.
"You don't say," Eclipse mock gasped sarcastically, her eyes widening in faked surprise. The mask of sarcasm melted a little as a flicker of an amused smile graced her face before she turned back to the human, fixing him with a dangerous look.
"I can answer all your questions quite simply," she growled coldly. "Don't touch me and none of your business."
She repositioned the warping blade behind him and let it barely nudge his back threateningly.
"We have to hurry it up." She glanced back at Crest. "Start helping the others out, quickly."
She turned to Helios. "Can you keep an eye on him?" She flicked her head at the human. "We are probably going to have to take him with us for now. Monzy can decide what to do with him later." Noticing the look on Helios's face, she added "He's the rebellion leader. I'll explain on the way."
She turned and bolted back to the door, signaling the other dragons to follow with one wing.
Crest saw the giant dragon and caught a slight glimpse of movement behind the giant dragon before being engulfed in a giant hug. He felt the cool lunarwing's scales against his, but the more prevalent feeling he had was the warmth from the king's wings. Something in him seemed to be revolted by it and he shifted uncomfortably in Helios' grasp. I may have almost killed you. How have you forgiven me so easily? Being released from the embrace, he went back to having his head lowered submissively but still watching the two dragons and keeping his senses alert to everything around them.
He watched the two converse when the solarwing looked his way, "I'm glad you're alive, Soldier, I wasn't sure if....nevermind."
Crest's interest had been nudged and he wanted to know more. Wasn't sure if what?! If they killed me! Did I do something so awful I should be put do death. Unless....did I almost die? He halted this dangerous train of thought and focused again on what the dragons were doing.
Movement caught his eye and he tensed. A small human stood with a camera ready to snap photos of them. Crest quickly assessed the small human. Doesn't look threatening. His weapon is just one of those picture devices that humans like. Doesn't seem to have any immediate weapons. The human began speaking dragon and Crest relaxed a little, deciding that he wasn't an immediate threat. He took a few steps towards the human as Eclipse pulled out some weird silver object and held it in mid air with what seemed like her mind. Is this what legends call "warping"? He took another step towards the human almost defensively. He didn't want any unnecessary deaths.
No more death...not now.
He tried to keep up, his headache beginning to return and his thoughts swirling in his head. Another human came bursting in and she glanced at him. I must look like a wreck. He thought, slightly amused. He continued opening cages and letting dragons out. The well kept dragons had so much. They had food and
Water.
He stared at the substance like it was a dream. The dragon from the cage escaped it, but Crest stayed staring at the water. The others were making their way to the doors, but Crest stayed. He stared into the pool, memories seemingly swimming in it. Nothing made any sense. He was fighting, then he saw nightwings, then he saw Minami, now he's escaping, and they are planning a rebellion. Nothing made sense! His head hurt from it all. But one thing made sense to him. Water is life.
His animal instincts suddenly kicked in and he dove for the water, not caring who or what might stand in his way. He drank deep and long, relishing each drop. It felt like complete relief to him. Nothing else seemed to matter. Water....home...life.

I hope that this summer maybe we will all have more time outside of school. I know some people here do have work though, and my parents don't like me on my computer when I'm not doing school.
haha idk abt having more time this summer, it seems I had more free time during the school year! now i have a job and they've asked me to take more hours, so i'll be working some almost-all-day shifts now!!! It's exciting but it's gonna take time.... i really hate making the rp take longer tho. I'm so sorry guys (and yes I know I made the no apologizing rule, but i feel like i need to)
If you guys feel like I should leave the rp bc I have to be gone so much, I can. I'd hate to bc I love all this so much, but i feel legit awful being gone so much and holding things up. I can't promise I'll be on all the time, but I can try to be on more. I just feel like maybe I should do something and apologizing seems so lame. like, i'm not on every day anymore and the best i can do is say "i'm sorry"?"
I seriously am, though, and I really wanna continue with this. I just feel really bad. If anyone thinks I should do something or kinda fade from the rp/let my characters go or something, I can try and do whatever would be best for the group.
ofc maybe i'm overthinking, but i don't wanna be a burden....
Also i literally am making myself not think abt it too much before sending this post so i'm being fully genuine and not thinking "i should go back and change that sentence bc it doesn't sound right" bc this is literally my brain rn.

No, no, definitely stay! I really enjoy your posts, and I love the variety of writing styles throughout all the authors of this RP. Neoma isn't exactly driving the plot either, not that that's bad, but it will help free you up a bit. I love reading her povs, the memory loss was an AWESOME plot twist idea that I *may* tap in to as the plot thiicckkensszz.

also, i hate doing this to y'all..... but could someone remind me of everything that's going on with blackout/alyssia/bamboo/apple/austin/whitestar rn? I'm trying to get back in the flow. I think I'll have to do the actual rp part later tmrw evening bc i work a long shift tomorrow and have to get a bit of sleep and my parents will probably want me to go to bed in the next few minutes. I got really distracted with something i've been working on and lost track of time for a bit, so i have to go to bed soon. In other words, I won't be able to write an rp part tonight bc it takes me a bit to properly word things and make it sound correct...
I'M SO SORRY Y'ALL I FEEL TERRIBLE CAUSE I'M HOLDING EVERYTHING UP GAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Oh thank goodness.
That literally means a lot, I didn't want to leave ;-;
She'll def drive a bit of plot later, but atm she has to go thru this in order to get to a certain group. She and Alora aren't exactly of the same mindset as Alora's father *heheh*
thank you so much for saying that, it literally helped a lot. I don't wanna leave, i love writing with y'all!
actually screw it, i'm zooming thru some rp parts tonight. look out everyone, i'm back.

Whitestar couldn't help but laugh along as Alyssia shouted excitedly into the wind. He was pretty sure no one else could hear her, but he certainly could. The feeling of the air whipping over his scales seemed to wash the desert heat away like a cool river, and the small wounds from the human's weapons were starting to sting less.
Whitestar glanced sideways as he caught movement in the corner of his eye, spotting Blackout as he fell into pace with him. Whitestar eyes widened slightly at the hunter mounted on the Nightwings back and he met Blackout's gaze with a questioning look. The human let go of the black dragon's spine and laid back almost casually on Blackout's back, watching Alyssia. Then he stood up expertly and just barely rested a hand on the Nightwing's spike, balancing precariously on the slick obsidian scale.
Don't do that, Whitestar thought anxiously. The last thing I need is for Alyssia to try it and end up-
The thought broke away as he felt Alyssia start to let go of his ridge spike and slide a little ways down his back. His head snapped around to look over his shoulder in a panic at the human, but she quickly resecured her grip and pulled herself back into position, gripping the spine perhaps a little tighter than before. Whitestar let out a breath of relief and turned back in the direction they were flying.
He angled his wings downward and they began to dip toward the ground as the wreckage of the caravan came into view. He could see the glossy reminiscence of the frost breath from the day before, the jagged icicles rounded and shrunk from the desert heat, dripping water onto the sticky sand beneath. Whitestar flared his wings to slow and flapped several times to land gently on the ground, careful not to drop or rear Alyssia off his back. He heard Blackout land with a thump next to him and the twins a few paces behind him. Whitestar unfurled one wing and held it out close to the sand, providing a slide for Alyssia to dismount.

Austin watched in some amusement as Alyssia hesitated to get onto the ice dragon's back. She's never done this before has she. She looked back at him, her sea blues eyes were filled with fear. His mind went back to the first time he'd flown. The same terror was in his eyes, and for a moment, he stopped pretending. He looked at her the way his teacher had looked at him. He smiled reassuringly and nodded towards Whitestar. Go ahead, Alyssia. He's letting you. He was still slightly skeptical of the dragons, but this ice dragon seemed to be gentle with her and he worried a little less about her flying with him.
What's happening, Austin! You're starting to trust these demon lizards!? You've got to have a couple of days off when you get back to the Scorpion Den.
Austin braced himself to be roughly yanked into the air by the black dragon behind him, but to his surprise, Blackout was still on the ground and speaking to him. "Climb on. I'm not doing this because I feel bad, or guilty; I have nothng to feel bad for. I'm doing this because I don't want to hate you forever." Then Blackout's wing extended towards Austin, but instead of swinging up like he always had, Austin hesitated.
"I'm doing this because I want to, not because I have to. It's different when I'm not being forced to carry you," Blackout said looking at Austin a little. Austin's eyebrow went up skeptically. He didn't expect this from the nightwing in front of him.
He chuckled slightly, reaching up for the wing to throw himself onto the back of the dragon like he had done so many times before. "And, I'm doing this because it's how it's supposed to be," he muttered in English, knowing the dragon couldn't understand. He swallowed some of the embarrassment building in him and he swung expertly onto Blackout's back, the familiarity of it coming back to him. He smiled genuinely and waited for the take off from Blackout.
Soon they were soaring through the air behind the others, but Blackout made his way to the front with Whitestar. Austin heard a faint whoop of joy in the air and he looked over to see Alyssia completely enjoying herself. He subconsciously smiled in amusement at her first time in the air. He remembered his first time again and began to relax on Blackout's back. She waved to him, excitement showing on her face. He laughed at her enthusiasm, but this wasn't his fake laugh that he had around them normally. He laughed genuinely. He was surprised at himself and then laughed again. He'd missed this feeling. Austin, what're you doing? You can't! You have friends at the Scorpion Den. He tried to persuade himself, but he couldn't remember the last time that he'd laughed genuinely like that.
He leaned down to Blackout and called out like he would when flying with him normally, "Keep steady. I'm going to entertain Alyssia." His cocky smile returned as he let go of the spike he was holding onto and leaned back on Blackout, the wind rustling his blonde hair. He laughed at the shock in her eyes. Then his smiled widened more, time to show her the big trick. Austin sat up, careful to keep his balance on top of the dragon. Blackout seemed to be flying steady and Austin missed having a dragon as good as he was. The steadiness was crucial to this next trick and he hoped Blackout wouldn't purposefully make him mess it up. Austin tucked his feet underneath him and began to stand up. Every muscle in his body tensed as he fought to keep his balance against the rushing wind. He reached out and lightly rested his hand against the spike closest to him. Looking over at Alyssia, he gave her a sly grin.
Austin jolted forward at the sudden drop towards the ground. He grabbed the spike tighter and rode to the ground standing up. The caravan below them lay in ruins and he scanned it for any signs of life.
Alyssia slid down Whitestar's extended wing down to the sand. Sand crunched beneath her feet as she walked through the ruined caravan. She could still see several bodies, and she had to force her stomach to stay down. So much destruction....just from some dragons. She looked back at the giant beasts and sighed, not sure what to make of the emotions she was feeling.
She looked around for the limo but it was nowhere in sight. Dang it. They probably left. Not good.
"
They must've left in the limo. At least, the ones who were left alive," she shouted back towards Whitestar and the others, expecting either Apple or Austin to translate. Austin's voice rang through the air as he translated for the other dragons. Panic started to build inside of Alyssia. What if they went to the Scorpion Den and not back home? They could ruin the whole plan! Her gaze flitted back towards the dragon group.
"We need to move as soon as possible. I don't know if they've gone to the Scorpion Den, but hopefully they didn't. If I'm gonna pose as the woman, the group has to not be at the Den yet."
Austin translated for Alyssia while also in his own thoughts. She's sneaking into the Scorpion Den by posing as someone? Ok, I will admit that's fairly clever. He finished translating and waited patiently for the other dragons to give there piece in the conversation so he could translate for Alyssia. She doesn't know anything about the Den, so how is she... Finally it dawned on him. That's why she needs me for this plan to work.
Whitestar glanced around the sand, his heart pounding. He didn't see the transport that had been in the center of the caravan the day before, and he heard the hunter translate Alyssia's words. There were no tracks in the sand and he assumed a breeze during the night must have blown them away. He stood there for a moment staring at the destruction of the human machines, his tail lashing in the sand before he turned back to the others.
"Apple, Bamboo," he started, his voice firm and resolved. "Split up and scan the desert in the opposite direction of the Den. If you find the limo, stop them or come back and find us." He turned to Blackout, Alyssia, and the hunter. "Blackout, you come with me. Bring him." he pointed a claw at the hunter. "Alyssia, you can ride with me again. We should stick together if we are heading for the Den, just in case things get out of hand."
He paced back toward the human and crouched next to her, lifting his talon the same way he had in the oasis to help her up.
"We have to move quickly."
Alyssia looked at Austin for translation and then nodded towards Whitestar. Before she hopped onto his talon, she ran over to one of the wrecked jeeps and opened the trunk, fingers crossed that some of the luggage from the couple was in there. No dice. She thought annoyed. Running to another one of the jeeps she opened the trunk and she frowned again as the trunks were filled with military equipment but no luggage. Running back to Whitestar, she hopped onto his talon again and allowed him to help her onto his back.
She yelled over to Apple and Bamboo, "We need that limo! I'm gonna need to change my clothes to something a little more rich looking if I'm gonna sneak into the Scorpion Den. The suitcases must've been in the limo."
Debating the matter in her mind several times before coming to a conclusion, she turned back to Whitestar, Blackout, and Austin. "Ok, we should go ahead and start heading towards the Scorpion Den. I'm assuming that if they got the limo up and running, it didn't get very far, because you all trashed it pretty good yesterday. So, if we go ahead and start flying, the twins should find the limo and get back to us in time. We need to look as if we're flying in casually anyway. Any questions?"
Whitestar listened as the hunter translated Alyssia's words. He glanced from Blackout to the twins, flaring his wings and shifting impatiently in the sand. The sun had risen higher and already, the desert heat was beginning to rapidly grow. He could feel the sunlight stabbing his icy scales and the sand between his claws felt uncomfortable and scratchy. He wanted to get back into the air and every moment that passed that they weren't in the Scorpion Den felt like a century. He glanced up at the sky again, his tail twitching.

@Harmonylight
(Do you wanna RP Neoma's part too? idk if she is gonna get out during the breakout or stick around the Den a while)
Apple and Bamboo followed along with the commands, calling 'nope over here' each other now and then.
Apple scanned the sand as they flew, searching for the said limo. She couldn't be sure as to exactly what it looked like, but as she heard Bamboo yell, she realized she didn't have to know exactly what it looked like. She turned mid-air and headed his way. She saw him standing near the limo, over a fallen body. His shoulders were shaking, and he wasn't looking at the limo at all.
She glanced at it, puzzled. Why wasn't he doing something? They could probably lift it in their talons. If they did so, they could easily take it back to the group; what-
"Bamboo! Let's get going!"
Bamboo, not facing her or listening, continued staring at the body. Apple wasn't able to see his face, so how could she know he was sobbing?
"I- Maybe you should go back and tell them yourself, okay?" Bamboo mumbled, coughing slightly to hide his tight voice. He didn't want her to have to see his tears. She was now getting to see the world, and one of her early sight-memories shouldn't be of sorrow.
"Dude- I can see now. I see the limo right here, let's head back with it, save them a trip y'know?" Bamboo heard a grunt behind him, and knew his sister was trying to right the vehicle by herself.
"Apple, I don't think it's a good idea. They said to let them know, not to bring it to them. Just-"
Apple interrupted, her voice bubbling with happiness. "No! I can see now, I want to help!" Her quiet and laid-back disposition was taking a backseat in her escitement to use her new sight. "If we just tackle it together and you stop obsessing over some human-"
"Apple just stop!" Bamboo cut her off suddenly, then clamped his jaw shut and closed his eyes.
He heard the efforts stop, and Apple was silent.
"Jeez. Sorry...." She muttered. "I can just see now, so I wanted to help ou-"
"For someone who can 'help' now, you're not helping much, are you?" Bamboo said under his breath, his scales creeping into sunset shades.
"What was that?!" Apple exclaimed indignantly. "At least I'm trying, you're staring at a human who can't play with you anymore cause it's dead!"
"THAT'S THE FREAKING PROBLEM!!!" Bamboo yelled, whirling around to face her. His scales were streaked in angry striped of red and painful shades of blue. "I KILLED HIM!! And you with your perfectly working eyes can't see beyond your own nose!!"

His mouth clapped shut, and his scales drained of colors, replaced by his normal colors.
He stared at his sister.
"Apple- I'm sorry-" He began.
"Shut up." Apple said between clenched teeth. Her eyes were glued to the sand to at her talons, and her scales began shimmering in shades of maroon and dark green. Bamboo winced at the visual representation of rage and disgust.
"I didn't mean i-" He tried, before she cut him off again.
"I Said. Shut. up." Apple spat, and whipped around so fast her tail sprayed sand at him.

She stalked away so fast and took off flying for the group, that she never once noticed the slow falling tears on Bamboo's face.

That was the worst thing about their bond. When they fought, it was intense.
The quiet ones are the ones to watch out for when they get hurt.

And Bamboo knew that well. As he looked at the long-dead human lying on the ground next to him, all he could utter was this.

"Looks like I'm dead too. Just only to one dragon."

Blackout helped look around, searching intently. His mind spun with thoughts of the flight here. He and Austin had worked together, and it had actually felt nice.
He shook his head again. He had to remind himself not to get sucked in. This was how Austin operated.
Draw others in with a fake facade, pretend to care and be kind, but then yank the rug from underneath later.
It was a well practiced scheme. He had done it many times.
Blackout blinked. He was getting distracted.
He heard wingbeats in the distance, and looked up. It was a red and green Rainwing. It was definitely Apple, but as she landed, he could tell she was angry and hurt. He cast back and realized he wasn't too far off- her untrained scales painted anger and disgust all over herself.
"Apple- are you okay?" He said quietly. He wasn't trying to draw attention to her, but she loudly snapped, "The limo is over there. Get there quick and figure out what it is you want, okay?"
He winced. Attention was definitely now drawn to her.
"Apple, what-"
"No. Just go okay?" Apple responded, a bitter edge to her tone. "And if my brother is still hunched over some stupid human, kick his tail and get him working for me. I'm going back to the oasis. I'll meet you all there."
With that she took off in the direction of the clearing, Blackout looking after her. He was slightly stung from her harsh words, but not for himself; he had heard and received much worse.
No, he was more hurt on behalf of Bamboo.
"Uh- I- Um- Ok." He muttered to himself, trying to right things in his head again.
"Guys, the Rainwings found the limo and want us to go over there... I think." He said, trying to force a light edge to his tone.
