Cap, thoughts?
The chauffeur pushed a phone into Gables hand, directing him towards a second vehicle, it's trunk open wide as a man loaded coolers into the back. Gables fumbled to push the phone to his ear, propping Tobias up on the side of the limo as the chauffeur began assisting the man loading the second car.Ferrin watched the limo pull out of the truck yard, grateful to see at least one thing go as planned today. He turned on his heel, glancing at the empty lots as he walked by. They had successfully cleared one floor. Just one floor. But it worked. Sort of.
The Den was chaos. It was unimaginably simple to transfer Tobias, and to switch Gables' identity. No one knew what was happening. This was one thing The Scorpion Den was absolutely, without a doubt, horrid at: communication. Everyone was so strong willed, more assumed power than was accurate. Ferrin could very easily get his way. People recognized his name, which meant- he had power.
Tobias wasn't certain how much time had passed, but by the time he had awoken, they were in the heart of the city, seemingly blinding neon lights on all sides. He turned his face away, blinking tears from his eyes, the light so incredibly bright he could hardly comprehend his own thoughts. A hand gripped his shoulder. He assumed it was Gables. Gosh, he hoped it was Gables.
"Almost there." Someone whispered.
He let his eyes close, too out of it to do much else.
(I'll get them set on escaping. Give me some tiiiime.)
LATS GET THIS PARTY STARTED-The chauffeur pushed a phone into Gables hand, directing him towards a second vehicle, it's trunk open wide as a man loaded coolers into the back. Gables fumbled to push the phone to his ear, propping Tobias up on the side of the limo as the chauffeur began assisting the man loading the second car.
"Gables." He greeted.
"Oh, I see the identity switch is going just fine." Ferrin snapped. "I called for Sinclair, not.. him."
Tobias tottered and Gables quickly pinned him up against the car, "What's up, Ferr?"
The chauffeur shared a look with the man beside him.
"Die, Clair."
Tobias must have heard Ferrin's retort, because he leaned against Gables, his unsteady breath laced with laughter.
Ferrin cleared his throat. "You take that car, and do not stop for anything. Make it to the first Checkpoint. Monzy is planning on staying there over night. You can make in time it if you go through the Straights, that car is designed for desert terrain. Then again, it's not the car it's the driver-"
"Thank you, Ferrin." Gables interrupted, helping Tobias walk to the passenger seat. "What will you do with Rose?"
"She's safe with me. At the least, safer."
"But are you? Won't they blame our disappearance-"
"Look, I don't think you understand how a hierarchy works," Ferrin started in a condescending tone, "but basically, what I say goes if it applies to The Den. You were in SDP custody, and I full jurisdiction to any of-"
"So that's why you couldn't get Fracture out? The Patrol didn't arrest her? Why was she with us then?" Gables asked, grunting as he opened the passenger door.
"A conversation is when one person talks, and when they are finished, the other person talks, and so on. You are very bad at this. Shut up, I'll hang up if you keep interrupting, and then where will you be, pal? Huh?"
Gables said nothing, shoving Tobias into the passenger seat as the trunk slammed shut.
"Fracture was arrested by SDP as well, they have other reasons for holding her in The Maze."
Gables could only imagine their plans for her. He didn't want to imagine their plans for her.
"Are you driving?" Ferrin said dryly.
"No."
"Where are you?"
Gables rushed around the front of the vehicle, swinging the car door open as he slid into the driver's seat, twisting keys already in the ignition. "Now I'm driving."
"Good, finally. Don't get pulled over."
Gables scoffed, pulling out of the lot and into the long, well groomed driveway. It was hard to see the elegance in the dark, but everything about Ferrin's estate was grand.
"There are antibiotics in the large cooler for Tobias. We'll see if that ice comes back. And if not, you need to treat his arm. I'm doubtful he'll ever use it again."
That sounded pointed, and Gables opened his mouth to retort, but Ferrin continued. "I have food and supplies packed as well. It should last you awhile. Don't waste it, you may need it if things go poorly. You'll loose cell service once you reach the Straights, so be mindful."
Gables pulled out into the crowded streets, noticing as Tobias flinched back from the lights, covering his eyes with his left hand, which had previously been holding tightly to his chest, his typical resting position as of late.
"How's Tobias? Is he coherent? And what's he like? Fainting on you and stuff?"
Gables sighed, slamming in the brakes as the street light ahead turned red. "Yeah."
"My, my, now that was helpful." Ferrin drawled on. "He's full of drugs from the infirmary, once they're out of his system, everything should begin to clear up. Thought his arm is-"
"Bad, I know, I know. How long have we got before they send someone after us?"
"Maybe two hours."
"Two hours?!"
"Si, estúpido."
Gables accelerated, tailgating the car ahead in his distraction.
Ferrin continued, "Yes, assuming the SDP doesn't freak out sooner. I won't be blamed. I'll clear the chauffeur. Everyone's working against each other, Gables. Tobias is the talk of The Den, once they realize he's missing, every assassin within the Scorpion Den will be targeting him."
"How comforting." Gables eased back from the vehicle ahead as a motorcycle swerved between them.
"You hurry, Gables. Use your head. And don't let Tobias' arm get infected. He'll lose the whole limb."
"You're just full of good news today, aren't you."
"Exactly. Talk to you later. Don't die."
Ferrin hung up.
Gables bit his lip, stealing a glance at Tobias. He was asleep. Gables turned the radio up, staining to keep his eyes from losing focus as the bright lights blurred. They could make it. But he had to play this well. Ferrin was right- The Scorpion Den was working against itself, multiple organizations contrasting heavily, all fighting for the same thing, but for different objectives. Once inside of the hierarchy, you could break any sense of order to pieces, everything holding on by a thread. For a brief moment Gables wondered if Tobias' position could have been used in a more profitable way. But he couldn't dwell on the past. Roe lived in the past.
He continued down the busy streets, lost in wild thoughts.
Do you wanna send the Ultimate Mercenary and The Ultimate Lifeform after them yet?LATS GET THIS PARTY STARTED-
Sage grabbed the large handle on the door and pushed it open. The hinges creaked slightly and echoed through the large throne room in front of him. His tail swished behind him in the air as he strode into the spacious area. Vulture was lounging in his throne and tapping a rhythm that echoed. The repetitive sound seemed to pull at Sage's strings and he forced himself not to react to the sound. Instead, he kept his expression neutral and looked at the large black cloudwing. His soft but menacing voice whispered out, "I heard you had an assignment for me, sir. And, I'm here to fulfill it for you." He stood a little straighter and allowed his blue eyes to look into Vulture's. Yes, please, give me something entertaining to do.Vulture lounged on his black obsidian throne, curled sideways, tail spiraling down like some kind of demented serpent. His long black claws tapped out a staccato rythm on the stone that echoed throughout the huge chamber, bouncing off of the stone walls and glittering black obsidian floor.
“Come in,” he said in a bored tone, tail twitching.
