Of Feathers And Flames- A Wings of Fire AU RP

Time passed- Vel wasn't sure how much.
She pulled herself from the water, her eyes lidded to shield the pupils from burning in the mid-day sun.
A stabbing pain of sickness ached. She dragged Alicanto into the river, and then she brought Ajax over, too. There was a tree overlooking a shallow notch in the shoreline. Vel put the dragons there. Ajax woke, but he was too weak to protest. Alicanto slept through it all. She wanted to submerge him and wake him up. But she was too scared he wouldn't wake up.
She drank. The only shot she had at survival was to stay hydrated and actively awake. So Vel tried to clean Alicanto's neck. Tried to stay awake.

She drank. The only shot she had at survival was to stay hydrated and actively awake. So Vel tried to clean Alicanto's neck. Tried to stay awake.
Pain ebbed like ripples in a pond through Alicanto's entire body, the heat making his bones ache, and his muscles spasmed faintly in weak shivers.
He felt cold, at the same time, his breath felt choked and smothered by a burning heat. His feathers felt wet and sticky like swamp sludge and he wanted to shift and unfurl his wings to get rid of the suffocating sensation, but his body wouldn't respond to the subconscious demands from his brain.

"Just hold still,"
The human reached out and patted the Cloudwing on the head, making the dragonet flinch. His wings felt cramped and heavy from lack of movement and two of his legs had fallen asleep. He could hardly breathe through the muzzle pressed over his snout, the vibrations making his mind feel blurred together. He was starving and his throat was dry from thirst, his body shivering weakly every time the human passed within his blurred vision.
"This will all be nothing but a dream when we're done,"
The dragonet pressed his eyes shut, anticipating the skull-splitting pain several seconds before it even began.
He still wasn't ready for it.
His body jerked and thrashed violently as the agonizing buzzing tore through his head, his body aching with every movement and his throat seemed to tear as the shriek of pain ripped through his voice.

Alicanto coughed weakly, blood tainting his parched tongue, a metallic tang seeping over his mouth.
His eyes flickered, his heart speeding up as the sensation of his half-conscious dream echoed away, leaving him with a barely decipherable memory that felt less and less real the longer his mind yanked him toward the present.
He was pretty sure his eyes were open, but the scorching light that flooded around the pale form near him mimicked the strange memory all too well.
He coughed faintly again, his head tilting up toward the other dragon slightly.
"I... I remember..."
His words were barely more than an exhausted breath, drawn out painstakingly slow, scratched with the dehydration in his throat.
He wasn't sure who he was speaking to, or maybe he was. He didn't really care to recall if he knew them. He closed his eyes again, his mind immediately spiraling back into muddled darkness.
"I remember..."

Vel blinked, then swallowed, then licked her lips. She side eyed the dragon, pushing herself off the bank. She forced more water down her throat, wincing as bile retaliated. She looked up.
"Alicanto?"
No reply.
She shifted her gaze to stare across the rolling desert.
"CloudWing?"
Nothing.
She laughed stupidly.

Ajax could hear Vel laughing, although it sounded muffled. His throat burned, needing hydration, but he couldn’t convince himself to open his eyes and get up.
He moved one of his front talons slightly, a painful spasm in his body.

Vel's twiching eyes caught the slight movement, and she smiled, not unkindly, grinning as she limped towards the SkyWing. "Hi, hi. You should drink water." She splashed his face. "And you should wake up. Completely. So you can stop being so fricken useless, oaf." She dragged her talons through the water, sending a heaping wave in the SkyWing's direction. "Hello."

Ajax awoke, the shock of the warm water making him stay awake. He growled loudly at Vel, furiously glaring as water and sweat dripped down his face.
He stood, still glaring. “Okay, I am not any more useless than you. It’s not like we’re going anywhere anytime soon. You see the transport, the checkpoint, the destination? Cause I sure don’t.” Ajax yelled, his raspy voice making him sound ridiculous.

"Glad to see you have enough energy to be- be stupid." Vel gave a flat grin. "You're eyes are bloodshot, bozo. Drink."
