Way ahead of you Studio. I would have been sitting in the vets office in tears by then. i didn't "get " what was going on when I started seeing alot more white feathers all over my yard and coop. My two little white cochins,I now realize, were likely molting. But they never had any bare skin. In fact, I just got done treating all my birds for Poultry Lice (ugh makes me itch just to say it) and I couldn't even find their skin under all that whitefluff! You don't realize just how fuzzy they are till you're looking for itty bitty bugs beneath their fluff. Especially around their vents which is where the BUGS like to lay EGGS yuck. I plucked more butt feathers in desparation than i should have probably but desperate times called for desperate measures. Poor birds.
Oh lord that's terrible! And you're right I would be straight to the vet with my poor naked birds lol
Quite a few of my chickens went through a molt this fall. Definitely not as bad as a lot of the chickens posted on here. But I did take a pic of my cute Japanese Bantam yesterday. So I thought I would post her pic This is her 1st molt she is 1year 4 months.
aveing a great time just seeing everyones contest pic tures. I had no idea it could be so all inclusive this molt thing. Boy the things your mother doesnt tell you about growing up i guess I just want to put little sweaters on all of them...Hey by the way I don't know why but my smiley faces arent coming out right, they are like I would type them instead of the ones BYC made, the cute little pics. It used to work last week now no/anyone else having this problem?
