do chickens still lay eggs when molting, this is my second year with chickens and I have one molting, I heard when they molt they no longer lay eggs EVEER..is this true>? I have only had the one molting for a year..i thought chickens laid eggs for 4 or 5 yrs.

Chickens may lay less eggs during their molt.

I bought 20 one year old leghorns for canning about 3 weeks ago. I plan on canning them after we get finished harvesting(we live on a farm). I was a little shocked to see how many were almost naked!

Most hens slow down or stop laying during molt, but resume laying after the molt is complete. It can take several weeks, but they will resume laying.
