Speck, our 6 yr old Sussex, is our only chicken that goes thru a dramatic molt. The others all seem to molt gradually.

By the standards of many molting hens here, Afredo, our Silver-Laced Cochin, doesn't look so bad.

But this girl is a MASSIVE overachiever.

I only collected eggs for 5 days and I figured that I was safe because she was molting and *shouldn't* be laying.

My "all Australorp" hatch has 4 babies with feathered feet and the only other feather-footed bird in the flock is an OE who is nowhere near laying yet.
