1) my math approach was metaphorically akin to the spray pattern of a shotgun on the target hanging at the gun range. The shotgun 'shot' [aka mini ball bearing] splatter the paper target with a bunch of tinybholes all over the target.

2) Elks approach is able to give a much higher degree of accuracy - to the scale of a 30 minute shift per day of post's. The sniper has a high powered telescope for seeing exactly were the single bullet will hit the target with a very, high degree of precision. How precise? Well, if the target was a football field away the scope could give ~1/8" distance accuracy.

Unless there's an unexpected gust of wind, or the target moves at the last possible moment, or the sniper doesn't do the math quite as precisely as she thought...
