That's what I always think about.
St. Louis is a hodge podge of closely knit ethnic neighborhoods. French, German, Italian, Hungarian, and now Bosnian, Botswanan, Vietnamese, Korean, et. al. communities that make it an ethnically rich place to live. While it is considered a slur, the Italian enclave was called Dago Hill. Many great professional baseball and soccer players came from that neighborhood. Joe Garagiola and Yogi Berra grew up across the street from each other on Elizabeth Avenue. When the US defeated England in the 1950 FIFA World Cup, five of the players on that team were from St. Louis and 4 of them were from Dago hill.
One of my first fiancées was half Italian and half Hawaiian, growing up on the Hill - talk about hot. Sizzling.
I also had a girlfriend from Rome whom I met while skiing in Cortina d'Ampezzo. She was smoking. And not cigarettes. It was a shame I had to come back here for work.
