The non venomous was some swelling and infection that passed in about a week. The rattlesnake bite resulted in 5 days in the hospital and arm swollen to at least 3 times its normal size.

Having never been bitten, the only way I can relate to that is the swelling that my dogs experienced from being bitten by all species of venomous snakes in our neck of the woods.
I imagine you were given antivenom?
