Ended Official BYC Mini-Contest - What’s Your Hobby

Pics
I mostly use Ravelry. thanks for the suggestion! I"ll check out CrochetPatterncentral.com
You can also go to Yarnspirations or Interweave. Do you know if your library partners with any digital media services? Its a good way to trial magazines or just keep them. They stay on my tablet indefinitely 😻. They have both crochet and knit patterns.

#1 - KNITTING
What is it that you love about this hobby? - its relatively inexpensive; its relaxing; can be done anywhere; can make very useful items not just decorative
When do you do the Hobby? Anytime; in the evenings; while traveling; in the waiting room at the doctor’s office; while on walks on occasion
What sacrifices do you make to be able to practice your hobby? Not many, thats the awesome part of knitting
Are you an amateur? An adept? An expert? - adept. I dont think
I would ever consider myself an expert
Are you lucky enough that this hobby is part of your job/income? People have paid me for my stuff and even requested specific things

Here is a hat I’m working on right now laying on a blanket I also made. I chose this picture simply because I really hate cable needles and instead use a short point tip, or something similar, and hope to maybe help someone out with that bit. Cabled patterns are gorgeous but can be frustrating if you have to constantly lose then chase that cable needle around, not to mention your stitches. With heavier yarns or more stitches I have used a chopstick run through the pencil sharpener a little bit.

Hobby Number 3 - Carving decoys and other fowl. Especially enjoy painting in somewhat lifelike colors and feather patterns. Wood Duck Drake.

Wow, you have quite a knack for things and a good coordination on those details 🤩 Those wooden twig tables are beautiful. Do you sell these or just make for fun?

Too many hobbies around here as I enjoy creating things.

Hobby Number 1 - creating twig tables using wood harvested from my own woodlands. Mountain laurel with its natural contortions makes each of those table types quite fluid in design. I also like that they are quite stable, but often look a bit off balance.

Hobby Number 2 - painting in oils, watercolor and acrylic - some samples: Boy Clown, Woodland Waterlilies and Ohiki Rooster

There used to be a local gallery nearby, but they closed prior to the pandemic. I sold some paintings and wood bird carvings there, but a twig table offered for sale there never sold - most folks wanted to try making them for themselves. So they are used in the home here and i have gifted a couple to friends. THANK YOU for your kind comments!
