I name them old fashioned ladies names, alphabetically:
Ava, Beatrice, Clara, Dinah, Eliza, Flora and my Rooster Artemus! 🐓 🐔🐣
I have Bert my real life BFF, Then Thelma and Louise as my sister was named Louise, then I have RIR named One Feather as when I got her she was mottling and had only one feather in her tail. And the other RIR Ruby. Then I have 6 White Leghons they are collectively called White Birds. And 2 Barred Rocks Shirley and her late sister Laverne. Newest Barred Rock is Checkers. That bird absolutely loves me. Follows me every where from day one. She was born in April. I bought her about 2 weeks ago so I did not raise her.

It is extremely rewarding to name your chickens, transforming them from just egg-laying machines to house pets.

Despite the fact that there is no shortage of human names, you might want to give your chickens a more creative name. As with people, each chicken has their own unique personality. Chickens also have fine memories. Whenever you call out their names, they will come running, particularly if it is because food is in sight.

So we would like to find out: How do you name your pet chickens?

Place your vote above, and please elaborate in a reply below if you chose "Other". And feel free to share your chickens' names with us as well.

Not many get names but when they do- it has a story. Example: Number 5, yes Number 5 is her name came to be because she was one of 5 in a hatch. And when counting at night we would constantly be looking for her. It would go like this often “1,2,3,4….where’s number 5. After a while it stuck. Much later we realized she is blind in one eye, and let’s say she was a little slower than the others. She’s a great old hen now, and is outliving many of her sisters and neices so to speak.
Then we had Frick and Frack because they always hung out alone away from the others.

We started our backyard chicken journey with Buff Orpingtons. We gave them British inspired names: Duchess, Countess, Dowager, Lady Mary, Victoria and Elizabeth. Our current ladies and gentlemen are named by personality or appearance: Delaware Blue Hen cockerel, Boss Chicken(nuff said); Delaware Blue Hen pullet, Dread Pirate(spraddle leg); Salmon Faverolle chick, Peaches; Delaware chick, Cream; Buff Orpington chick, Celeste; Cream Legbar chick, Hershey Bar.

My first 3 were Winken, Blinken and Nod. As soon as I got to know these 3 gals, Nod became Naughty because she was so bold. My favorite bird. Now I have added Scarlet and Sadie, my redheads. And Onyx and Jade and Orchid, my beautiful black marans who shine green. And there’s Meredith and McDreamy who have been together since they hatched and have been like an old married couple. And then there’s Donovan (he’s mellow yellow), Jacob, who gave his coat of many colors to my Joseph. And lastly there’s Mr. Man who just thinks he’s God’s gift. They’re all named after I get to know them now. All I have to do is to. A cowbell and they all come running, names or not🐣🐥
