I give maze, sunflower hearts, meal worms, pea flakes and warm chicken mash as well as layers pellets from auto feeders, I soak a bucket full of treat feed over night to dish out in the morning and scatter a bit of corn in the afternoon by their pellets remain their main feed all year round.

We give all sorts of treats year round, but it's fun to cook for them! I made some plain pinto beans and they LOVED them. They really love oats with fruit though. We also do tuna every now and again because I can't stomach giving them eggs. 😂

For a New Year's day treat we hung a whole cabbage in their pen. They loved it. We had fun watching the 'Ladies' bat it around!

I’m not sure if I can give my Girls Chicken as a treat. With the Oatmeal though can someone give me what kind of Oatmeal?

On really cold days I'll take some of their food and pour some hot water on it to make a warm mush. They think it's the best thing ever. If I'm in a very generous mood, I may sprinkle some dried bugs and scratch on top as a garnish.

I do the warm mash, too - their regular feed, mixed with hot water until it gets clumpy like wet sand. It's nice and steamy on a cold day and they love it! I only make enough that they can eat within a few minutes, so it doesn't freeze solid.

BYC Project Manager can you please take out the "for added warmth" part after "cracked corn" in the options? Let's not keep spreading old wives' tales. Cracked corn (and digestion in general) doesn't add any warmth in chickens. It just raises the risk of obesity and related problems, especially when people overdo it in the winter, believing the warmth myth.
