We have two cats that watch over the chickens , one is a herder the other a watch tower boy ……neither cat has ever lifted an eyebrow or paw towards any of the girls & one actually herds them when they stray too far ….long hair torti is the herding cat , the other just watches the perimeter , at 17 pounds he will get whoever tries to get them !!

My Beagle likes to play with the chickens. Well, mostly she plays and they try to peck her nose. Whenever there's chicks in the house, she sleeps at the door of the room they're in. At first, I thought she was trying to eat the chicks, but then I realized she was just trying to clean their butts.

My dog went through some hard core training (which wasn't that hard at all, since I love spending time in the chicken yard). She spent a year being totally fine with the chickens, resting with them, coming with me to visit them, AND not eating their poop when I tell her. But after a hormonal broody attacked her, she has been slightly scared of them. Sometimes a few chicks would chase her as well. I feel pretty bad, so I dont take her with me as often, but she loves to follow me as well. She still is okay with chickens, but definitely is a little more cautious. She is pretty small though. We do have another dog who would go for chickens any day.

There are 5 big dogs here.
I trust none of them around the chickens.

I can say with relative certainty that IF one got a hold of a chicken there wouldn't be anything left to try to save.

I keep mine separated 100% of the time. No chance of an oops since the dogs have their space and the chickens theirs with mine in between.
