Can newbies join? I've had one trial run that was hard, hard, hard but I learned a lot, just hatched on Sunday. I'm going to pick up some rare Dorking eggs and have Brahmas and Australorps coming this week.

I can see how this could be addictive, but what do you do with all the chicks?

I'm looking for some broody hens in the Austin, TX area if y'all know of anyone looking to pass on some mommies. Large breed or bantam, no preference.
I may try heritage turkeys and geese later this spring.... I'm desparate for some guard geese and sexy toms!

Hi
My name is Joanne
And I am addicted to hatching and collecting chickens.

It all started in November when I told my DH that I would like to get an incubator to hatch a FEW chicks.
After researching, I decided I wanted a Brinsea advance, but it was Christmas season. I told DH that even on sale, it was too expensive.
Besides I don't buy Christmas presents for myself. Well guess what DH gave me for Christmas, a Brinsea Octo 20 Advance.
I bought my first 3 batches of eggs from the CrAzY 24 Hr EgG aution. And it has been nonstop since then. The Brinsea was too easy! Just check once a day and wait.
What do I do while waiting - I'm planning my next hatch. Checking for more eggs to hatch.
I made mistakes with my first hatch, but still managed 75% hatch rate from shipped eggs. The second time I drove over an hour RT to get eggs. Received guidance from BYCers. Improved my procedures, still made a few different mistakes. Hatch rate improved to 90%, inspite of a 6 hour power failure at the start of lockdown. 3 days after they hatched I bought more eggs. And I know I'm not done yet. I'm thinking of getting another Brinsea, the $99 one, tops are interchangeable. Should add a turner. This way I don't have to wait so long to start a new hatch. Maybe I'll stop when I get the perfect hatch? I don't think so. I have sold 12 chicks. Moved 6 from the basement to a coop. There are still 2 different age groups in the basement. 30 eggs in the bator. 25 chicks to be delivered on the April 21st. I'll probably have another batch hatching that week.
I'm crazy! Help!
