So sorry Raccoons are really bad chicken predators I never would have guessed how bad. I’m so sad for you!

I think I may have found who the real culprit is. I was sitting with my chick today outside because she seemed very nervous and all of a sudden a huge Hawk lands on the fence about 8 feet in front of me. My chickens start going crazy and I locked them in the coop just to make them feel better. Do you think it could be the hawk who killed her? I’ve heard that predators will keep coming back for more once they find a good source of food. I’ll post some pictures of the hawk. We also don’t really have raccoons in my neighborhood so I wasn’t 100% sure. I couldn’t really see the carcass because I couldn’t handle that so I wasn’t the one who disposed of it but I think she got pulled out of a hole in the run. Can a hawk stick their talons into holes and pull out an animal?

I'm so sorry about your chicken. I don't know on the hawk. I hear that raccoons are usually to blame when a chicken gets snatched from a hole. I would think a hawk would fly away with his prey leaving no evidence.

Mine isn’t old enough yet to lay! She was born June 2nd…so Im gonna guess I have a while still to wait!

Mine did at just over six months. Now she has quit. She's still a pullet so she didn't do a hard molt.

It’s funny you ask, I believe she laid her first egg yesterday! It’s a small pinkish cream longer skinny pullet size egg. She’s 23.5 weeks old
