Locked the bator down at 5:00 this evening. 18 eggs (mixed up mutts and blue/black/splash orpingtons). Wish me luck and join in if you're in time with us. I think I'm going to put the bator on live again like I did for the last hatch. It was so much fun being able to watch it when I wasn't home. I hatched the last round for my kids at school. It was a hit!

Offically in lockdown this am about 10:00, but woke up to a pip this morning and have two babies in the brooder right now. They are Delawares, I have four more Delaware eggs in the incubator and a number of Silver Spangled Hamburgs (6) as well as some Appenzeller Spitzhaubens(4) and a couple of Egyptian Fayoumis.....we'll see how long it takes before everyone is out....I am thinking tomorrow afternoon?

I LOVE Egyptian Fayoumis! I had one that crowed while still in the baby brooder. SOOO cute seeing the baby roosters learning to crow.

I went into lockdown last night, but have been futzing with the stinking humidity since then. It's now sitting pretty at 101.7, with 71% humidity. They're due Wednesday evening/night.

Fayoumis are very precocious aren't they?! lol They do everything quickly, feather out, crow, lay eggs....

As soon as this batch of babies are hatched and the incubator is clean, I have 2 dozen EF eggs ready to go in. As far as baby chicks go they are some of the prettiest, too. I love the rich, red color they are when they hatch, they are almost a mahogany.

We'll have to post pictures, too, when they babies are all out.

Boy, you are ready!

I fuss and fiddle with the humidity, too, but find that once they start hatching the humidity sort of takes care of itself. My incubator is a bare bones LG still air....so I am constantly checking it. My DH just fixed fans into my second LG still air incubator that I set with as many eggs as I could fit...I can't wait to see if changes things at all.

My all time favorite incubator is my ancient hova bator that I got second hand from our local pet store who had used it to hatch reptiles in! lol It is also still air, but for whatever reason it holds the temp steady. Once I get it set, it stays set.

There are murmurings, sotto voce, in my house that the menfolk in my family are conspiring to make mom a great big hatching monstrosity out of an antique wooden Ice Box we currently use to store old quilts.

We shall see.....

none of mine are peeping or wobbling :-( these are things we heard early in the last hatch

Hi there!

Went into lock down at 2:30 this afternoon. It's no big hatch this time, just a wee one...

Two of my Showgirl eggs and 4 Lavender/ Porcelain Silkie eggs.

Here's wishing everyone the best of hatches!
