Officially on pip watch :)

Good morning chicken folk! Woke up to 3 pips in the bator as of 5:30 this morning!

Making coffee (first things first lol) and go check mama chickens progress once the sun comes up.:caf

Just to clue you in on how crazy I am, I just had my first baby a little over 6 months ago and I'm trying to hatch 14 eggs and planning my next hatch already.. I'm justifying it by telling myself I'll sell all the chicks....not keeping any...right? :gig

Yes it is! I had close to 40 something birds a year and a half ago (roos hens and chicks). I had to move back home cross country suddenly and luckily managed to re-home every single bird. But I was still sad. But now I'm at a point I can get back to hatching, my mom got me a new Janoel for Christmas, and I'm a happy chicken lady again. I'm excited to pass the addiction on to my daughter when she gets older. :love

That's great! I'm glad you can get back into chickens! I actually keep a small flock myself because I live in a neighborhood but I love hatching chicks so much that I just started asking around to see what others wanted and started hatching for them. It was really fun last year because I got to hatch quail, turkeys, goslings, and even peachicks!

Set these on January 13. My banty Cochin also decided to go broody at the same time and she's sitting on 7 more eggs. They're going to be barnyard mix chicks. One of my roosters is a California white and the other is a Japanese black tail white bantam. I've got 2 RIR, 3 PBR, and 1 black Australorp hen. The banty Cochin is sitting on one of her eggs.

Can't wait to update with pics! :caf:jumpy
So excited for you! Im new to all this and i have a broody hen in my barn. The other hens go lay on top of her and she stays with the eggs nestled under her. Im awaiting more pips today

Got a zip! Babies been working on it for about 10 minutes and is almost out :jumpy :jumpy

Update!
Have two hatched running around the incubator. Third just started zipping. There are 2 with still just pips and 2 with no action so far.
Checked on mama and she has hatched out 5 babies so far, has one egg pipped and one with zero action.

Hopefully I can get some better pictures tomorrow of the fluff butts! I can't wait for y'all to see one of the Mama's babies, it's yellow with little black polka dots!!! :love

This was the first baby that hatched in the bator. Not the best pic.

I'm going to make an attempt lol. She's a banty so I'm not sure how many full sized chicks she can handle. If every single chick hatched I'll have 14 babies total. It would definitely make my life easier if she can take them all!
I read a good story about a keeper who would regularly handle the broody chicks, picking up one at a time then putting them back down. Once they had done that for awhile, they would put 2 chicks back down...mama broody had not a clue. Not sure they were working the the same amount of numbers as you are tho.
