Aww, rough start. When the chick is standing is it able to stumble around with the tape on? As long as the strip is wide enough for the distance between the legs so still waddle around then it's just fine. It's primarily to help keep the legs under the chick while it strengthens it's little leg muscles.

Ok thank you! He hasn't tried standing yet. Hasn't been 24 hours since he hatched but the other chicks kept running around trampling the poor thing in the incubator.

Oh! And as if that isn't enough ...I went and gave the other chicks to the broody hen, she took them all without incident. But I took the last egg she had and float tested it, thought for sure it was a dud. But it started twitching in the water! So I threw the incubator back together and put it in there. I'm going to candle it later tonight to see what's going on. Craziness!!!
