Officialy confused with coop size!!

And have your chickens walking around on wire all day? Seems like you're sacrificing a lot of chicken comfort to make your life a little easier.

Well "all day" i dont thing if chicks have a choise between coop and free run will stay in coop they will stay there other than sleep!!! i was thinking something like with tiny holes on it just for vent more cleaning it wont bent or wont be like a rope walking for chicks.... anyway am glad to hear more opinions!! thats what am thinking to use!

Not all wire is created equal. Some wire has tiny nubs at the welds or galvanizing that can be quite sharp and can injure a chicken’s foot. Some wire does not have that and works really well.

I use 1” hardware cloth as the bottom of my grow-out pen. I find that somewhere around 12 to 14 weeks the poop stops falling through and needs to be cleaned. It just gets too big to fall on through. I don’t know what size openings or what kinds of wire they use around you for that flooring but it is something to be a bit careful about. Make sure you get the right stuff.

If you want you can put a 2x4 on top of the wire to give them something to stand on. I don’t and I’ve never seen injured feet from the wire.

But i dont itend to use wire!!! What i eant use is harder than hardware cloth my point is that you have a percentage of poop drained and even when its not you can easily brush it!!!! Wooden floor needs tones of maintenance!!! So am thinking ground or hardware cloth .....

Here hardware cloth is wire. I don't know what you plan to use but I don't need to know. Either the ground or something raised with openings can work. You just want the coop floor to be dry and the poop to not build up to the point that it stays wet.

Okam really sorry for that didnt know its the same for you guys i'll try post a pic of what i am thinking to use!!!

1000

So what are you thinking about this?
Theres no way of cutting but i was wandering of orthopedical problems in chicken might occur!!!

I call that expanded wire mesh. If it is galvanized check for sharp points of galvanizing that might injure their feet. If it is hot dip galvanizing there should not be any points. If it is spray galvanizing there could be sharp points but they should all be on one side. Make that the bottom.

Check to see if there are razor sharp edges where it was expanded that could cut their feet. I don’t know if that is a problem or not with that mesh. I don’t use it so I’m not familiar with it and don't know how sharp it is. It’s going to be heavier and stronger than the welded hardware cloth many of us use.
