my silkie chicken starting brooding, we live in Up-State NY. I am a little nervous I may be a little late for little ones, soon it will be cold. I am wondering if she will keep them warm and safe on her own?

It doesn't hurt to pull a lamp out and locate it somewhere safe in the coop just in case momma don't wanna keep em warm, chicks normally won't go to the cold but if they do its critical.

It also don't hurt to buy a tub and some straw and toss the lamp onto it and keep it inside either your home or shop.

"It'll stink if we put it in the house"
Not if its maintained like it should be it won't smell, I've raised plenty inside my bedroom before.

Nothing to be nervous about! Relax and enjoy. She will do all the hard work!

Now I have a bigger problem, she is laying on auracanas eggs and so far they have all been double yokes. Everyone we have eaten. Should I just take her off the eggs. Oh man, what to do???

She had one brown egg and two blue, they are 10 days old, then this morning she has one blue and one brown. One disappeared, but from what I have read the blue won't hatch because they are double yikes. Do you think she knew and ate one? Raising chickens is harder than it looks....

It's actually fairly easy when you get the hang of it, once that happens you should have another spike in chicken obsession haha! However don't take everything so hard! Did you find the shell of the missing egg? Chickens won't eat the shell, and if there's a egg eater they would've ate more then just one.
