Omg I did it!!!!!!!! I have a baby!!! I thought I killed them and I was gonna throw them away. I left the door to the room open but I got distracted all day and it remained that way. I was just putting my hair in curlers and my Fiancé went to close the door and noticed my cat staring at the bator. He went in to get her out and then he heard it...Cheep Cheep Cheep!!!! He yelled "oh my god you have to see this" and low and behold a chick!!!! There are two more pips and another that looks upside down. What do I do about the upside down one??? I think the chick was climbing on it and turned it. HELP!!!Oh and when do i take the chick out of the bater???

It is best to leave the bator closed until the eggs are done hatching and then take out the chicks once they are dry and put them in the brooder...some people move the chicks as they dry to the brooder with little issue. Perhaps misting after opening and opening the bator grabbing the fluffy chick and then closing the brooder as fast as possible. I also think that the chicks that have already hatched make a lot of noise and such that helps the other chicks to hatch faster, so just leave them in there.

And don't stress about the ones that are hatched, they absorbed their yolk and have about three days worth of food and water in them, they will be fine in there. I agree about chicks encouraging hatching, they are like a little pep squad in there.

Thanks guys I decided to turn the one that got flipped by the chick so the pip is now not facing down it is kinda to the side like the other pips I see. I hope I didn't kill it but we shall see. I have to note I am quite surprised that the hatchling is yellow I have red sex link hens and a light brahma Roo I thought they would be red like the hens. Does anyone think they could still be sex Links and maybe the chick is a Roo? Also the chick has cute little feathered feet

They wouldn't be sex linked, I'd say its a flip of the coin thing what colors you get at this point

I like mixed chicks for the mystery. I don't want to hatch birds that I know exactly what I will get...too boring. I want different colors and patterns. More fun and entertaining that way..and who wants 40 white hens all named Betty? Not me. They have to look different so I know who is who. I'm on day 8 now with what started as 24 Maran mixed eggs. I got the eggs locally From a fella that keeps 2 maran roosters with his laying breed hens. So I could literally end up with absolutely any color of chick! And Any color of egg. His hens are barnevelders, buff orpingtons, rir, olive eggers, EEs, speckled Sussex, wyandottes, etc in with one black and one blue copper roo. The possibilities Are endless. 2 eggs are still showing clear, and 3 look like they have blood rings, but I'm not sure yet on the blood rings. They are not like the other blood rings I've seen that chicks the yolk on one side of the egg...they are a circle making a weird pattern right through the middle of the egg. Like i have to keep turning the egg to follow the ring, so I'm going to leave them a couple more days. If by day 14 I see no branching veins then I'll crack one open and see what's up. This is my first try with fertile eggs. Second try ever. First go round all the eggs were infertile. Waited til day 11 to crack one to be sure and they were clear indeed. Anyway even if all 5 are bad that's ok. I will still have 19 going...

Good luck!!! I hope you have some beautiful birds!!! The two that piped last night have now hatched!! The one that was upside down hasn't done anything but I think I saw it rocking. I haven't seen any other pips but who knows by tonight we might have more pips and chicks!!!!
