Thanks for all of the responses and the welcomes... Thanks Moriah. This is actually a quilt the bf's mom made. I recently made us an etsy shop and it's exciting!

This roo has a different personality than the others for sure.... and his body is built differently. It's harder to hang onto him.

I hope his lacing is nice!!

I have a couple updated photos of the fellow in question. Do we still think Roo? We almost brought him back because one of our girls was plucked on her back (we thought by him).... and it turns out that we now believe it's a different chick who may also be a roo or may just be a jerk. We think that our barred rock is now plucking other backs too! I'll post that one in another thread.

I'm sorry, but I'd faint dead away from shock if that's not a roo.

Look at those big huge legs! And that stance is unmistakable. Hens like to stay low to the ground since that's where nummy stuff lurks. Roos like to stand big and tall so everyone can see how handsome they are, and to watch for danger.

Hope you can keep him, he's gonna be gorgeous!

I am just curious- how can you tell by the legs and elbows? It is mentioned that they have larger legs, but what about the elbows?

I'm in the same boat, three GLW and 3 Partridge at 5 weeks now and each day I think they look more like roosters. I hope I'm wrong but it appears out of the 6 "pullets" I was sold 4 are roosters. I'm glad we can ship them off to the in-laws if need be. That will allow me to get the 3 SLW that I originally was on the hunt for. Watching your thread to see how this one turns out.

I like having a roo around. One of my girls got really nasty when we did in our old roo (he started showing aggression and I have little kids.) Got a new roo from a friend and now she's sweet as pie. He had to beat her up several times over the first few days, but she quit attacking him, and they're all as happy as clams. Plus, while he only hangs out w/ his girls most of the time, as soon as he sees a hawk, he's right over with the chicks. Guess he knows they have no mama to take care of them. I wasn't expecting that. I picked up chicks from the feed store before we got him. He's a great roo! And pretty, too!

Here he is standing with my white rock pullet. You can actually see a little blood near her tail. We're having some pecking issues from someone. Just when we thought she was healing up, too...

::side note... as I'm typing this I found a TINY deer tick crawling on my arm. I'll have to check myself more carefully when I come in from hanging out with the chickens!::

But he has such a shapely rear.... Is that poofy butt what we call saddles?

Wow, beautiful coloring! I don't know, my GLW is fully feathered at 5 weeks with a long tail. For some reason mine feathered very quickly for the breed.
