I actually don't have nest boxes the way my a frame is set up. I have a 8 foot section that is covered over with 2 levels. They can perch in the lower part to get away from the weather and wind. the top part has a door on either side that i can open and reach in to a area where they have a little ramp up to from the perch area and nest. I just put hay in there and change it out for them on a regular basis. I tried the nest boxes and they never wanted to go in them. I would put them in there and still nothing after 4 months. They would just lay eggs where ever they wanted depending on the season it is different spots. Then I have a 8 foot caged section that is part of the same structure with a door to the coop and where they lay and the run. That way if there is a raccoon or possum around they still have some where to go till I can relocate the raccoons and possums. 8 foot 2x4s for the angled pieces make it about six feet tall at a 45 degree angle. Also put wire mesh on the bottom i have had some things dig in and get the chickens before and it is heavy to move once built. I had to drag mine with a truck from the drive way to where it sets because the tractor idea is good on a smaller design but mine was much to heavy and the axle did not support the structure. It was even worse picking it up and caging the bottom in after losing a few chicks to raccoons.
