Thanks for the info there. I took a look at the thread and it gave me some ideas for protecting our garden for next year. This year however the darn deer have decided that our house is the place to be. They sleep in the acre next door and a 5 o'clock every evening (unless a storm rolls in) there are a couple of them standing by the feeder waiting on us to bring dinner. I've taken to shaking the feed bucket when I walk out the door and believe it or not they will come trotting up, not right to me but within 15 feet or so, to get fed. I've taken to putting a little feed in the feeder and then broadcasting more of it out around the property so that everyone has a chance to feed. If I put it all in the feeder this one old doe stands there and eats it all and there are a half dozen fawns that I want to see put on some weight before fall/winter. The drought down here has our oak trees slow to produce nuts, even the walnut trees are slow this year, and I'm concerned that the deer will not have enough forage and will leave the area. We're also broadcasting wild bird seed across the entire acre this fall so that there will be plenty of green new growth forage for them.
Between now and spring of next year though I need to build a fence for the 40x50 garden my wife wants and since I've got plenty of trees on the ground that need to be cut I'll be making a rather tall fence out of oak posts and anti-game wire.
I'll post pictures once we get into the building groove.
