I think our Mallards, Larry and Sherry may have found a little hiding spot.

DH was cleaning out the asparagus patch today and found a half buried duck egg.
It was filthy and freezing. Almost 3 inches long and about the same tan color as our BO poulets lay. Maybe a little lighter. The Buffs never go in that area of our property so it had to be Sherry.

We got them in the spring when they were just about a week old and figured we wouldn't see an egg til next year.

Like idiots...instead of getting a pic... we cracked it...(it HAD to be pretty old and the ducks only spend a short time out of their run a few times a week so Sherry couldn't have hatched it herself.)

It was a double yoker, the inside of the shell had a thin while cooked egg like substance lining it.
Am I wrong? Ya think one of the BO's may have may have snuck over there and laid? Or could this have been Sherry?

My mallards eggs are white...
You can usually tell duck eggs from chicken eggs just by size and colour. Id guess if it looks like your chickens egg it is, alot of pullets lay double yolkers when starting to lay too.
