I think two of my ladies are getting close to start egg laying. Ive been doing a lot of research on the site (thank you for all the great information) I understand some will start doing the egg laying song, and their behavior will change. The two are the two biggest, the top hen and her right hand. They've both been squatting. Etc.

But I wasnt expecting what the sexlink top hen is doing. Shes telling the WHOLE neighborhood is this shrill Spwackkkkkkk. My neighbors thought i had a sick goat. I mean its soo loud and when she does it she gets a weird angel on her neck like this L sometimes when she does her real loud spwaaccckkkksss.

The sex-link with the upward tail is the bigmouth.

I always seem to have one or two who are much noisier than the rest. I've found with mine that there is nothing consistent about the egg song. They may sing it before laying, when someone else is laying, after laying, or not at all.

Same here, there's always a big mouth in my flocks. Whine whine whine. Could be for anything.

Sometimes they cry (not the eggsong but this shreaky thing you're speaking of) when they want to lay and the nest is occupied. Or if they need to lay and are having trouble getting started. Or if they are free range and want out for the day. Or if it's treat time and you're late.

Or if it's Tuesday.
