I have 11 chicks in the brooding pen, 17 eggs in the incubator (6 bantam, 11 mix breed standard ) and now after all this work it looks like I finally have a broody hen. (And yes i have a rooster)
So besides the fact that that i need to collect today's eggs and wait to confirm the hen is broody. I would rather her hatch the eggs I already set in the incubator rather then another full set of eggs. The eggs have only been incubating 2 days. Any option on if i wait 2 more days candle the eggs to make sure they are good and give her like 6 of the standards to hatch? I don't mind having some both ways but I figure the 2 days will be enough time to comfirm she's broody as well as the eggs will be set 4 days to check viability. I figure 6 is a fair number of eggs for a first time broody. I do have a brooding coop but might not be able to seperate her as I have an injured hen in that coop right now.
Note... the possible broody only just today appears to be setting so I want to wait to besure she is ready to stay before i give her eggs
