Oh Hennie, why do you keep eating the medicated chick feed?

I have a hen, Hennie, also a very fond pet, who lays a nearly 3 inch egg everyday. She also eats nonstop. I also have broodys with chicks and she won't stay out of the chick food which is medicated with 0.0125 Amprolium. I am not sure how to keep her out of it (hennie is clever!) and I am not sure if it is hurting her. Should I keep eating her eggs? I left for a couple hours and when I got home a cup of food was missing. I don't know if the chicks are eating a lot or if she went in and gobbled.

If you are really worried about them, then feed the broodies and the chicks both chick starter (which wont hurt anything at all.) Then keep Hennie OUT! I know you arent supposed to eat eggs if you are giving them amprolium 9.6%, but I dont know if that small of an amount would hurt anything.

Good Luck!

I don't think Amprolium is a problem. At least that's been the concensus on several other posts. It's given to cattle to treat and prevent coccidio is is even now allowed to be fed under the USDA's Natural Beef program.
